I cannot plug it Rev... When I plug it.. It runs like crap!
btw- what if I bolted it, and welded? Would that pass?

the weld is bad not because its inherantly weak, but because it changes the properties of the metal - also - there is no way for me in looking at it (if i were the tech inspector) that I can say that the strength is there... - a good looking weld isnt always a strong weld...

use the bigest bolt that will fit in the hole (IIRC 3/4" is the standard size - that is pleanty strong...)

My tow hooks came with (2) 1/2" bolts per hook.

I'll look on my vacuum tree in a few minutes when I get home and let you know where that hose goes

I'm no help, I simplified my vacuum harness.

Ok, so I have some pics..
This first pic is a little vacuum diaphram; I dont know where one hose goes..
I'm pretty sure this is why when I start the Jeep, It idles high.. then acts like it wants to die. but comes out of it and idles decent. Also when I rev it up multiple times.. it comes back down and wants to die.. Does anyone know where this vacuum line goes?

Yes, that vacuum line goes to the EGR selenoid mounted on your fender, right beside the ballast resistor.

Second, your gauge cluster has to come out of an 87-90 Cherokee or Comanche. You will also need to change the oil pressure, and temperature senders to the correct ones. I have one out of a Cherokee with no tach, and the large Gas gauge, if interested.

Third, I have a set of Custom 4x4 brackets and hooks, I will sell. These use the three bumper bolts, plus bolts through a couple of frame holes on both sides.

PM for details.

I plugged the vacuum to the EGR valve. I plugged it into the EGR canistor or whatever you call it. And It didnt run so good. So I just went ahead and plugged it to the EGR valve.

Thanks again!

Awesome! I really appreciate it!! You guys are awesome! BOB, Yes I saw the tent, I think it would be awesome to have; especially if dad and I went wheelin' together. We could sleep BUTT to BUTT in it. To bad I have a long bed and low funds.

Aaron picked up his 8.8 with 3.73 gears and a "posi-lock" this weekend and got started cleaning off the non-used hardware and brackets. He spent most of the day cutting brackets a grinding off the welds. He's got a newer axle with disc brakes, so he pulled the calipers and rotors off to take into his Auto Tech class. They have a lathe so he can clean the rust off the rotors. He'll push the pistons out of the calipers, clean them up so it moves freely, and replace the seals if necessary. He is also going to replace the pads. The emergency brake pads are fine. I advised him to replace the front pads on the truck too and make sure the front brakes are in good working order.

Great weather and a nice day relaxing over a project out in the garage. Aaron said "Man this is a lot of fun." I'm happy he is enjoying it.

So whens he gonna come and do my 8.8 install? What I was told looked lke an AMC 20 actually ended up being a 35, bummer. So now I'm back onto the 8.8 install. At least now I've got spare 35 shafts.

Howie ... it is as much fun seeing your boy enjoy a project as it is doing your own. You've got something great to look forward to.

Manche ... the 8.8 is really an easy swap. Just need an angle grinder and welder for the most part.

I'm lucky in that Aaron, though he's not had any formal welding instruction, has a very good eye and steady hand. He also loves to weld and actually does a pretty good job. He does a hell of a lot better job of it than I do. After I bought the welder, I showed him what little I knew plus he picked up some tips from his cousin who was taking some classes. Now all I have to do is keep wire in the damned thing. I think every teenage boy in the county has been over here welding up exhausts, bumpers, brackets, and who knows what. But, it gives them something to do besides chewin' tobacco, fartin', fightin', and chasin' girls.

This comanche has been one of my favorite Jeeps of all. I've had three SWB Jeeps before this one, all four wheel drive, and this 2wd is my favorite. It will not be 2wd for much longer. The plan is to finish my 8.8, put the 30 in the front, and lift. (Before putting the Tranny and Transfer case in. Yeah I know, whats the point in a 2wd Jeep lifted about 5.5 inches? I'm doing it a little at a time.

Pops I hate to say it but even when my buddies and I are welding.. we still fart and chew tobbaco. Most of the time the fighting and chasing women is at night.

Manche', You wont have any problem doing the 8.8. I watched dad do this swap on his; and now mine is almost done, on the first day..

that's easy for you to say. I don't have a welder, and I've never done anything of the sort.
Oh well, nothing like jumping in with both feet and trying to stay afloat!
Good news is that I'll have a 4.10 front axle ready to go in at the same time. Gotta find me a 4.10 8.8

Well I've kinda kicked myself in the A$z.. I havnt been taking pics on my axle project; so today I went ahead and took some pics of my 8.8.

Here is the spring perch, and the brake line mount. I just used the stock Brake line mounts and welded them under the spring perch. Dont worry, nothing is in the way to where I wouldnt be able to get the U-bolts in.

Mvc-003s.jpg

Here is the other side ^ Had to mount this one a little lower because of the clearance on the brake junction. Also notched out a little of the spring perch so that the line wouldnt be in a bind. Yes I smoothed the notch so it wouldnt be sharp and actually cut the flex line.
Mvc-006s.jpg

This is the axle on stands....
Mvc-007s.jpg

Here is one of my welds on the perch, I think it didnt turn out bad for being a little wire welder. It definatly isnt going anywhere..
