rel·e·vance
Pronunciation: 're-l&-v&n(t)s
Function: noun
1 a : relation to the matter at hand b : practical and especially social applicability : PERTINENCE <giving relevance to college courses>
2 : the ability (as of an information retrieval system) to retrieve material that satisfies the needs of the user

The relevance is that things can be found alot cheaper than they list for. Why don't you jump all over Opie, he's the one that brought up the 9".

Cause he's in Nebraska.
You try jumping on someone in Nebraska from Illinios!
That'd be a long damn jump!

make sure you dont have the trac loc lsd in it now. if you do the lsd carrier wont allow you to run any kind of locker at all, and you might as well weld it.

I have an open carrier. If I can't afford the mini spool soon I will just weld the damn thing. I don't really know what I am doing when welding the diff. I don't know gears and how they work to well. Does anybody have any pictures of a welded 8.8 and some description on how to do it the correct way? I don't want to end up with a bad carrier or something like that shortly down the road.
Thanks for the help.

Kim.

I can tell you this,
With the amount of wire you are going to use, you mind as well buy a spool...

but, If you are set on welding it, make sure you use a hot weld, Buy like 6 cans of carb/brake cleaner. It has to be clean clean. might also want to stuff rags in there to minimize the slag in the diff.
weld the spider(side) gears to the side of the carrier, then weld the spiders together where they meet at a 90 degree angle. and now we are lincoln locked.

Ive heard of some pre-heating, but I dont know.

I did alot of reading this morning and have come to the decision that I will buy a mini spool. To many bad stories on welding and the chances you take in doing it.
With having c-clip axleshafts I don't want the problem of trying to get my axleshaft out if it ever breaks. Time to see about that mini on ebay. Thanks for the help everyone, I will need more when it comes time for the install.

Only a select few. I think that I would blow the pinion or ring gear before the shaft. Don't know if it was just the d35 that gave me the pinion problems or what, but that is the only problem I have ever had with any rear axle. Damn pinion shafts and bearings!!
I got to see a full size 8.8 blow a shaft this past weekend. The bang was a sound I don't want to hear mine do. Bummer having drum brakes too.
