8.25 - Best Lunchbox Locker?? Opinions Needed!!

yes you will need a few tools. one you can make if you can weld. a dial indicator and mag base and torque wrench and thats about it.

I've been thinking of doing the 27 to 29 spline swap in my 8.25, but how easy is it? Can it be done with basic tools and no real experience working with gears?

LOL...
OK, the no-slip is made by richmond gear. it is similar in looks to the lockright, ez locker, aussie locker, quicklock... it like an evolved lockright containing more parts that make it work much quieter. aussie locker having tighter tolerances and such still doesn't make it compare to a no-slip.
they are all a lunch box locker meaning that they fit inside the carrier and replace the spider and side gears. they are limited in strength to the carrier itself and the crosspin.
stepping up means a full carrier replacement locker or LSD. the detroit no-spin by tractech, the truetrac LS by tractech, the ARB, OX, Eaton, Auburn units as well. but at a greater cost.
spline count is allways different but very specific. you currently have a 27 spline 8.25 and you want the extra strength of stepping up to 29 spline shafts. the 27 spline carrier will not fit the 29 spline shafts without machine work. so you either need to machine your 27 spline carrier to fit the 29 spline shafts or get a 29 spline carrier. which can be kinda pricey.
add that to the $350 tag that someone quoted on the no-slip and you come within full replacemt carrier locker range.

Yes, i see the light now grasshopper....ok, so here goes Ryan, i want a LSD....and I want 29 spline shafts, now, what do you recomend i do......Also, when can you do it for me!! hahahah

It is an Auto, i drive about 75 miles a day on the street, so i want it to be as streetable as possible.

Don't waste money on a LSD, lockers arn't as bad as some will lead you to believe, yes some are rougher (louder) than others. It just takes getting used to, once you do, you won't even know it's there.

The no slip is very streetable. I have it in my DD and I hardley notice it back there.
I have to agree with that.
I just put the no slip in my DD like a month ago and it is GREAT! Next to no sound out of it and is very streetable! I drive it on paved roads all the time an it's great. I think it makes the whole truck feel more stable on the road even!

Yes, the No-Slip (historically) is very streetable when mated with the auto.

It seems to BANG every once in a while with the stick (like mine). Even that isn't that big a deal once you get used to it. I was driving 90+ miles a day with mine.

THe detroit does seem to do a bit better than the no-slip. its quieter, smoother and more predicable. and I ran a no-slip for 4 years.

Ive been running the No-Slip 8.25 locker for about two weeks now. All I have to say is WOW! I am impressed with the quiet drive down the road, and the firm grip it gives me off road. there was No hesitation whatsoever even on the steep rock crawlz.
