7120 head conversion...

The Renix manifolds will work on the HO head just fine. Not necessary, but worth it in my opinion, to matchport the intake manifold and intake ports to the Renix gasket you will be using. I'm doing this on my stroker and I've done 2 HO swaps into Renix Jeeps. A 60mm throttle body, with the corresponding larger butterfly can be purchased for $90 from www.strokedjeep.com. Bigger than the Ho's 58mm TB BTW. Easy.

Well, made some good progress yesterday, got the rest of the stuff removed from the engine to get to the head, and got the old head off. Surprisingly nasty in the oil channels, so very glad I opted to do this lol. Parts of the gasket even seems to have been eroded a bit. I am wondering if it is the original gasket, anyone know if there is a way to tell original from a replacement?

As for the donor head, Only 5 more valves left to clean and lap, a final degrease to get rid of any lapping compound left in there, then reassembly and it will be ready to go on :) I do still need to clean up the push rods, had them soaking in some degreaser for a while now so it should all come off easily, though may wire brush them... Either going to do some work on it when I get home from work tonight, or tomorrow... Kind of exhausted from last night so probably not going to work on it tonight lol. Will update with more progress as it happens.

I was looking at the head bolts from the donor Jeep and one of them has a burr on a thread (pretty sure that happened on the way home) and there is a bit of rust and a tiny amount of pitting on a couple of them. There is much less rust on them though than the Renix bolts. The burr I know I can just file off, but I am wondering how/if the other stuff would affect using them... I can't seem to find ANY head bolts to fit, the oldest ones that seem to be available are from a 96+. Any idea if a set from that year would work?

I did just find these: http://headbolts.com/Jeep-AMC-232-244-258-4.0-engine-head-bolts.html

And these: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...ch_head+bolts_1180325_3940&keyword=head+bolts
The 96 ones are cheaper and more readily available, but the "headbolts.com" ones mention the right years but are more and are another $7 to ship them...

And one more question, do I really need to chase the threads in the block? Thanks again for the help.

As of tonight the new head is on! I did end up using the donor head bolts, and I highly doubt I will run into any issues because of that. It took a while, but all the pushrods, rocker arms and their associated parts are in and torqued down, and heavily oiled (Jeep is going to be sitting for a while longer, most of the oil I am sure will drain back into the block...) the local parts store had to order in the valve cover gasket, but I didn't want stuff getting in the head, so I just put a few layers of masking tape on the gasket seat of the valve cover, and lightly bolted it in place for now and taped off the top holes. Wednesdays plans are to get the exhaust headers installed, and the new intake manifold and power steering pump, and probably get the new alternator in and wired up, then of course get the gasket and all the ordered parts in... Will post some pictures once we get more done on it!

Thanks again for the help guys!
