So my son comes home today and said a friend asked if his dad had a Cherokee with a V8? My son said yes. His friend said he had a video of it. So here is the video of me letting off at 60mph. http://youtu.be/PYFtDBNXz9Q
I will be running some sort of Hi 9s front and rear. Haven't started the research yet, still working on the hood and collecting all the part needed for the head swap.

as much as a HP rear may sound it works on the wrong side of the gear and is more prone to failure, the Currie housing you mentioned there is a nice one but not very strong in a 6.0 LS powered rear axle. one of the Nodular case 3rd member would be perfect in the rear with the currie HP in the front as that is what my plans are on my build.
just make sure you get the right 3rd cases so you can use the 35 spline axles in them.
any idea what you're housing will be?
i like the SpiderTrax ones
if you're building custom axles i would HIGHLY suggest the Ruff Stuff 9in pinion gauge bracket i have there, tells you exactly where the pinion will be since all the measurements go off of that for a reference. well at least in the front axle it does.
they with the 8.8 gears since they are an OEM R&P, the IFS trucks used them in the front so finding replacement gears or aftermarket gearing in say 5:29 is easy. unlike the True HI-9 which i believe is all custom proprietary gearing which works well but when you snap something and sheer teeth....... $$$$$ and wait time.
also an 8.8 R&P isn't much smaller than the 9in anyway.
Temp hood is complete. 2 or 3 weeks I should have all of the parts for the head swap, a/c and the axles.
So far still no issues after 2500 miles. Its starting to get hot here, its 82 outside now. The radiator and fan are doing great, still haven't gone over 205. Fan does run for 45-60 seconds then cuts back off for 60+ seconds when parked for a long time.
Thank you. Yes and no. Although I did get 1 tank with a 22 mpg average, several with 20, it is hard to do. Its just too much fun to play with. When I play hard it gets around 15-16.
Any ideas why my LQ4 swapped Jeep is getting way worse mileage than when it had the 4.0? I know I'm going faster, but I was honestly expecting to break even, if not pick up economy.
I went from using 14 gallons in 1 hour, 45 minutes to only about 50 minutes with the same 14 gallons. Could it be a problem with the tune? Doesn't smell super rich, but the fuel has to be going somewhere. Computer was flashed by Pacific Fabrication, a well-respected LS shop, to supposedly stock tune for a 2003-ish LQ4. Late model XJ tank and pump.
Check fuel pressure at the rail through the RPM range & do vacuum / leak down tests as a starting line. Poor MPG can be a ton of things. Most likely, you've got a bad sensor (or several) somewhere.

youre racing right? If your times have improved and youre going faster, youre probably using more fuel. The only way to get all that extra power is to use extra fuel. Might be able to get some back if the tune is improved (assuming its rich now) but unless you are aiming for the same times you had with the 4.0 and as a result using less throttle, youre going to use more fuel.
Jeremy, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you have in it to complete the job minus the hood? How many hours of work in it? Do you have emissions in GA?

I haven't totaled it up but I think around 4k. Hours are between 90-100, due to taking my time and lots of learning, the last swap I did for a customer took me 60 hours. Yes we do have emissions here. It passed.
