WHOA there big boy! I thought I was the 2.5L master of NAXJA! LMAO! I want pictures and details! I'm running 33's and 4.10 about to go to 5.38's. It has a 94 MPFI engine.

I run 5.38s on 37s with 5-speed on the hwy, perfect combo.

with tires getting that large you should have a very heavy drive train. if you have a heavy enough DT then the top speed is going to be hindered by the I6 it jsut dosn't have enough stock to move such a heavy vehicle at high speeds. as for gearing with 38-40 i'd be at 5.38's at least even deeper if possible. 5.38's are nice with 37s they would be undergeard for 40's

I've been in a TJ (4.0/5-speed) with d44/d60/atlas 2 with 37s and 5.38s and it would run 70 just like any other Jeep.

I can do 75-80 mph with my 37" MTRs with 5.43 gears in my 9" and my RPMs are just at or under 3K which isn't bad. Since I went with a NV241 Rock Trak, I don't have a speedometer so my wife let me know how fast I was going on my trip back from San Diego after getting my Jeep back from Ryan (Rawbrown). I was doing 90 at some times and it felt great. :laugh3:
65 mph is about 2,500 RPMS. This is with a 91' XJ with a AW4 with overdrive.
I like the power, it really has woke my tired 206K motor up. :)

I've got the early AW-4 with the .705 OD. I ran 5.38's with 35's last year and thought that was a good combo. With 37's I'd like to have a little more gear. With the lower OD of the newer ones I think 5.38's would be find with 37's and I would want more for 40's.

my buddy has a 92 YJ with the 2.5, 5 speed, 44s f/r and 5.38s. 37x13r15 boggers. drove it on the highway. not enough power to keep in 5th. 4th even bogs down. like ~ 12mpg but very unsure.(speedo doesnt work)

5.38 gears are getting pretty low for the 8.5" dana 44 ring gear. You can go to 5.89s on the regular low pinion dana 44 or 5.38's in the HP44. I went with 5.38 in the HP44 and couldn't be happier. I just wish I could get 5.38's for the 9" (I have 5.43's), but the slight difference doesn't make much difference. At least 4 wheeling, I wouldn't want to be in 4 wheel drive on the street anyways. My driveshaft is making a thud, thud, thud sound in 4wd, I have to check that out, but I think it's just my front driveshaft. You want to stay within a few % with your front to rear gear ratios. Dual dana 44 with detroit and 5.38s has a nice sound to it. Like you mean business. :laugh3:
