4wd shift lever light

I have a '99 Cherokee with the NP231 transfer case. Is the transfer gear position area beside the lever suppose to be lit when the headlights are on? The transmission drive lever area lights up but the transfer side is always dark on mine. The label is on the handle in my TJ so it never lights up. I just need to know if there is a bulb blown or not.

Yes it should be lit when the dash lights are on. The bulb is size 194 and is very easy to get to. Just pry the black bezel around the transfer case shifter and it should come undone. you'll be able to see where the bulb is once that is off. Just pull the bulb and replace with a new one. Should take all of 2 min.
