4 Wheel Parts, 70th and Federal

So I just had gears and lockers done at 4WP and they told me tomorrow they are going to have 5 cars they are crushing with employees trucks, and something about a ramp? I didn't ask questions but they said they would be at it all day, or at least during their normal business hours.

Just thought I'd post it up in case anyone wants to go check it out.
 
Sorry to be rude....any chance I can ask how much they charge for gear install?
 
river - the only thing I would trust 4WP for is parts, and then only from Jon "The Man With The Plan" Brule...call up there and find out when he's working if you're interested. Jon is a regular over at CO4x4 if you want to contact him.

There are several better places for gear install, and as I recall a few good recommendations for places in the Springs even.
 
Yeah I had heard that. I'm taking the plunge on bigger tires in the next week or so and know that I'm going to need to do gears soon and just wanted a ball park. I had been thinking around 1000. Thanks Yucca.

NAXJA has our own gear guru.....

PM Terry (87xjco) the guy that built the Toyota/XJ hybrid. He does gear installs at his shop on Saturdays for very reasonable install prices. He did DJ's and a few others.
 
Terry was actually one person that I had planned on PMing when the time came. I'd sure like to see how it's done and he seems pretty patient and willing to answer DA questions. Thanks.
 
Damn I wish I'd known that ahead of time...

Whole thing was $2400, but that includes Superier 4.56's for d30 and 8.25", an ECTED for the d30, and a Auburn LSD for the 8.25". Not sure how much just the labor was... I probably paid too much, but it's worth it because it drives a million times better. I've been on 33's for over a year with the stock gears.
 
Hey, I know this is a stupid noob question, but what exactly is the number they give you when you do the ramp?

They had a 30 degree ramp and I got a 663.36. But 663.36 what? Millimeters? Or is it like out of a 1000 being 100%? Thanks...
 
I am responding to the earlier post. John at 4 wheel parts is great and really knows the answers to every question. At first I was a little weary about purchasing parts and labor there, but I have no regrets. I recently installed new gears and lockers and they are great. Those guys were able to help me with any question I had and were extremely competitive on the price of both labor and parts. Needless to say, I have been a return customer.
 
Your ramp number is a function of how far up the ramp your vehicle travels. A 1.000 rating means the front wheel traveled exactly one wheelbase length up the ramp without the other three tires losing ontact. That allows comparison of flex between various vehicles with differing wheelbases.

A 663 ramping on an XJ means (more or less) that the front wheel got (663/1000)*101.4" wheelbase...or roughly 67" up the ramp.

I forgot about Terry when trying to think of some of the local gear guys.

I also was pretty pleased with my experience at 4WP. I brought in print outs of the cheapest place on the internet I could find the Auburn ECTED and LSD. They weren't able to price match that low, but what they couldn't do, they took off the labor cost essentially price matching exactly what I had found. They seem to have done a good job on the instlalation, from what I can tell, and they offer a 3 year/36K no questions asked parts and labor covered warranty. So for the next 3/36K if anything at all happens to my gears or diffs, they will replace them with a brand new part for free. Not a borrible deal. The sales guy I dealt with, Dustin, was good about keeping me informed during the installation how things were going. Overall a good first experience there.

Thanks guy's, always happy to help the NAXJA guy's out with gear installs.

I drove past 4 wheel parts this morning and there are three crushed heaps there. I was tempted to try and crawl over them. My luck i'd flop in the parking lot.
