4.56 gears

I don't know if its my heavy retread tires, but I cannot for the life of me get over 17 mpg average with an aw4, 4.56's, and 32's.
4 hole injectors, new 02 sensors, plugs, sensors all good. I cruise at 55-63 mph hoping to save fuel. Doesnt help.

How in the hell do you guys get good mileage on 4.56's? Should i got to skinny, (lighter) 33's? Its only 3.5 inches of lift too! (and I never use a/c or the defroster!)

It just happens for some rigs and not for others. I mean, I'd love to get 17 mpg and have on one or two tanks before with the same setup you've got. I've fully accepted the fact, though, that my 99 with 4.56's and 32 bfg at's on aluminum wheels (light) isn't gonna average 17 over the life of these tires.....and I go 65 max, mostly 60 on the highway.

Oh well, hopefully gonna get those 35's this week. That'll make it better.....

I run 4.88 on 31s and do not have any issues at 70.

Loved my Jeep with 4.56s and 32s. I drove 70-80 on the highway all the time and never had an issue. In fact, I commuted about 70 miles a day, almost all highway, for 6 months with the Jeep as my only vehicle.

I stopped worrying about MPG in the jeep a loooong time ago. I think on my last 3 hr drive to a wheeling spot, I got around 12 mpg... Then again, I've been driving high HP mustangs for a while, so I was happy with 18-20 mpg in those. You want efficiency, get a diesel.
