I have the self clearing fenders... :twak: I have not trimmed yet, but I have bent the edges back and hammered them down. You may be able to see how the front fenders have been bent in.

You WILL have to trim or, don't go off-road, or bumpstop like crazy!

You should do a search. You will find tons of info on trimming, bumpstopping, and lifting.

Good Luck!

i dont wanna trim though so maybe just huge bumpstops?

I highly recommend that you do not put a 4.5" lift and 33's.

You can run a 3" lift and 31's and then bumpstop accordingly.

Of course, there are threads on here that will explain how to trim your fenders and move your factory flares up. You will never know it's been trimmed, if it's done right.

rpraterxj, what's your opinion of the Detours rear bumper w/ tire carrier? Does it rattle? Sag when the tire carrier is open? Other opinions?
Sorry for the hijack, but this shouldn't take long. Thanks.

Why don't you recommend that? If your saying that you don't recommend it because he doesn't want to trim then that is cool.

I think 4.5'' and 33s are perfect. You get a perfect balance of everything imo. You really need to trim though, I don't see why people are afraid to. If you do a good job, it'll look great.

I could not agree with you more. I only said because he said he did not want to trim. That's the only reason. If he doesn't mind trimming and wants a capable, good ride, then 4.5" on 33's is the way to go

I love that bumper! No noticable sag when open, no rattling. I have hit some big rocks and the bumper stood up well. I have had it for over 3 years! I do get a little bounce in the tire at highway speeds on a couple of areas here, but that's usually where they groove the road for some crazy reason.

Install is not too difficult. I highly recommend the bumper and DetoursUSA. Mark is a stand-up guy!

i recommend 6-7 inches of lift with 35s. ive had 31s 32s 33s and now 35s. Your always gonna want to go bigger. just get it done and trim the shit out of your fenders. And bumpstops for sure.

I have a RE6030 (3.5") that actually sits right at 4.5". I run 33's with trimming and have not had any problems without altering the bumpstop.

I definitely agree, if you are against trimming a 3" with 31's is a great lift/tire combination and is still very capable offroad.

Fender trimming can be kind of scary, but when it comes down to it, if you just take your time, it can look very professional in the end, and really isn't all that hard.

the trimming is what scares me, im 18 and this is my first jeep and ive bought it and everything on it and i dont wanan just screw up the body to much cuz i drive it every day. but ill probably end up trimming.

any suggestions or anything i should watch for?

Dont cut into any welds or past the seam on the rear. Make relief cuts and pound the lip up with a hammer.

The fronts are easy.

For what its worth, I'm only 17 and did all the fender trimming myself with an angle grinder. I can definitely relate to the fear though, but once you make the first cut its not bad. Besides, once you get the first cut, its too late to turn back so you might as well keep on keepin' on:rof:

Here's mine flexed out. I've got 4" bumpstops up front and no rubbing. But the rear is another story- no bumpstops and they like to self clearance the fender flare.
