I installed a Taurus radiator fan in my '89 4.0L this past summer and I didn't have a toggle switch for it, it was just always on. Well tonight I changed that. I don't have AC so I don't know how you would incorporate it with the AC override, and it's a RENIX era rig so the later models wouldn't work, but I figured I'd share it anyways.

For the switch, I grabbed a 3-way rear-wiper switch from another XJ in the junkyard. I popped the front off of it, took the spring out, and it acted exactly like a proper 3-way. Up, middle, and down. This creates the selections: Auto - Off - On

Using the auto selection takes advantage of the stock switch in the rad. Off is off, and on is on all the time.

And the diagram! (The top right S is the radiator switch)

Basically you splice into the yellow wire, and split the grey wire into going into the 3-way rocker switch. The wires are down near the rad-switch. I'm not sure if it actually ends up going to the relay like pictured, but I just used that as a reference.
I hope this helps someone.

I do not see a relay in your diagram. I think the fan have a little too much power draw to be fed directly from your ignition switch which could lead to ignition switch failure and/or burnt wires = :flame: There should also be a fuse/breaker some where in there.

Great idea with that switch. I have two switches in my XJ that are not being used. I hope to put them to work soon.

The relay is the square box right above the battery. It's the stock relay for the stock electric fan in the RENIX jeeps. The yellow and gray wires are all there - I simply spliced into them. I have it named "Ignition Switch" because my FSM tells me that the yellow wire comes from it. It then goes into the rad-switch, comes out gray and continues to the stock relay, I believe. For my taurus fan, I added another splice into the gray wire to control my own relay. Hope that makes sense.
