27 or 29 Spline Identification?

Any way to externally identify the spline count of the shafts in my Chrysler 8.25" axle? It's a 96, which I hear is the year it changed from 27 to 29...

I.ll post this again---
Look on your axle,between the brake and the spring mount,if you are lucky there will be a plastic/paper band with a series of numbers.
A 5206-XXXX will be a 27 spline axle
A 5209-XXXX will be 29 spline
my 96 with a 5206-9603 # was a 27 spline.
To BE SURE pull it apart.
