2010 SEC Elections

1. Official nominations start 1 Nov and voting starts 15 Nov and runs through 30 Nov.
2. Term is for 2 years.
3. You MUST have been a Member (red letters) for at least a year before you can hold office.
4. You MUST be a Member to nominate someone.
5. You MUST be a Member to vote.

If you are interested in running for office, you should consider starting an "About Me" thread where people can ask you questions and you can politick all day long.

Remember that this is not a cake walk - there are a lot of things that goes into holding office. Think about your life situation and think about how it will be in a year or two years;obviously things come up but that's understandable. Only run for office if you think that you can fulfill the duties.

This would be a good time to air your grievances or compliments about this chapter; if you decide to do so, please be respectful.

Most chapters have 2 rides. For us it is the Crawl and the Flog.

We do have a lot of rides, but they would be classified as just general get-togethers or day trips.

1. Strong community that supports, helps, hangs out, and trail rides with others.
2. Leader ship for providing large ticket items that can not be supported by just one or two members i.e. swag, organizing chapter events, etc.
3. Minimum of 2 central chapter events. Granted this has been a hot topic of debate in the past, but that's another thread i guess.
4. Local members taking on an active roll in facilitating local smaller events in their immediate areas. Meet and greets, trail rides, camping, etc. These events are key to help grow and build the connection on a local level.
5. An active forum with a fair share of on topic and off topic items that is welcoming to everyone. Newbies to veterans. We all know of plenty of sites that are known for their unwelcoming ways.

Not looking to take on any of the up coming roles up for election, but just thought this would help start a few talking points.

1. I believe that our community has grown by leaps and bounds with the new BOD. The energy that the BOD has put into this chapter seems to have reinvigorated the membership. I know that we have some Members that step up to the plate to get local things organized.

2. Without a doubt, the kick in the pants was High2by fronting his personal dollars to kick start the swag program again.

3. We have the annual Crawl and Flog. The possibility of adding another formal SEC ride is a possibility that the BOD can look into if the membership wants it.

4. See #1. In my area, I know that Shrek has been invaluable for this. The first thing I think is the annual Easter cook out. The first year, we even helped with the tornado clean-up in Murfreesboro. Talk about awesome.

5. I'd say that our chapter is one of the more active ones. There is a lot of banter, chatter and conversation. In addition, I would say we are definitely inviting to n00bs. I don't think I've seen any bashing on new people in our chapter.

Our chapter is so geographically large, that it is very difficult for the BOD (any BOD, for that matter) to formally organize meet and greets and events in other states. It would be impossible to set that up in Florida, for example. This is where the chapter relies on the local members to get the ball rolling. For the most part, we do a good job of this!

I would like to see how everyone feels about the health of this chapter. Your ideas on new things we can do or things to do differently. There hasn't been a lot of discussion so far so that would indicate to me that we're all content with the way things are.

It appears to me that in each of the geographic areas we have the non-elected leaders that tend to get things rolling on a local level for non-sanctioned rides, M & Gs, wrenchfests, etc.

Since we are so geographically large, has there been any consideration looking at divisions, or subdividing the chapter.

What I am thinking is the Prez, VP, etc on a chapter level, but then have an SEC West and and SEC East with their own set of lower level elected regional officials that represent their region, but ultimately answer to the elected chapter official.

The chapter officials would be in charge of the chapter as a whole and the 2 main sanctioned SEC events. Each set of regional officials would have the option to arrange one addtional SEC event in their territory that would be set up, run, and goverened by the regional division. The regional officials would also be avaialble to set up the informal mentioned M & Gs, trial rides etc.

I may be getting a little in the weeds with my explaination, but everytime something is posted in the forum for upcoming rides at least 2 or 3 people chime in with "if only I was closer." This may be a way to help eliminate that problem and allow for a different governmental structure to help people on a more local level.

Basically in the past it has boiled down to a lack of intrest. There was an attempt at a NC chapter and like we said then the driving force behind it was gone within a year. Doing two events a year is a challange, doing more would be next to impossiable. Just some thoughts off the top of my head. I'd be intrested in what others say on this idea.

There's not enough work for more officials to separate the chapter. The focus within the chapter has been the official events. Unfortunately, it's not logistically feasible for some folks to make the drive.

Separating the chapter will simply add additional red tape and bureaucracy without benefit. The events have been spread to different areas of the chapter with less than enthusiastic results. The turnout in the TN/KY area has always impressed.


I do have one question: Will the newly elected officials petition to include KY in the SEC?

It's *only* Virginia

There was some informal talk with the MWC about this and basically they don't wanna give it up.

i think he means that the current BOD is not overwhelmed with running such a large chapter right now.... if we had a larger base outside of the central SE (especially in coastal areas) then the volume of people would necessitate a division to more easily organize targeted events for the regions, but the fact of the matter is that as of right now there just isnt that big of a turnout from those areas, so another chapter just isnt necessary
