I will post here incase some of you, like me don't make it into OE Tech very often.

Anyone have a part number for this? I tried to get one from Napa and they gave me the wrong part and do not have a supplier for a 2001 XJ tranny mount.

The mount is $130 from the dealer!!!

Josh

Rockauto.com has them for $14 each but for some reason they don't show up under model year 2001. Check under 1998. I'll get the part numbers when I get home in an hour or two.

Edit: I have noticed that there are 2 different kinds of cross-members: Ones with offset holes and ones with centered holes. From what I have seen, the 242 TCase usually comes with both the offset holes and centered holes (2 sets of 4 holes to mount a tranny mount for a total of 8 holes) while the 231 comes with centered holes (1 set of 4 holes to mount the tranny mount). We found this when changing out knucklehead_61's tranny mount.

Here are the part numbers:
Mfg: Anchor. Part #2625: This tranny mount has offset holes and will fit my NP242. It would not fit Tim's NP231 crossmember without drilling new holes in either the crossmember or the mount. We ground off the studs and drilled the mount for the proper location.
Mfg: Anchor. Part #2570: This tranny mount has centered holes and will fit my NP242 and Tim's MP231 crossmember.

These are only $13 a piece at rockauto.com so if in doubt, buy both.

hey Josh do you remember if the centered mount was pitched at an angle front to back?

I got another mount from Napa but it is not angled like the offset one and my original mount is broken and I cant tell.

I will try to throw it on tonight and we'll see I guess

Josh

Here's a pic of the two mounts.

2570 is on the left: Info says its for 4cyl vehicles. It has centered bolts and is about 1/2" shorter than the 2625 mount. No angle to the mount, totally flat.

2625 is on the right: Info says its for 6cyl vehicles. It has offset bolts and is about 1/2" taller than 2570. There is an angle to the mount, top surface is maybe 5-10 degrees angled forward compared to the flat plate.

Cool those are the two I have seen. I will try the shorter, flat, centered one later tonight.

The have an auto with a 231 BTW. Thanks for the info. Just wish getting the right part didn't always need to be a PITA

Seriously.

We found this problem on Tim's junk and Autozone wanted $90 for the correct mount. So we ground off the studs from the off-center mount and drilled it out for Tim's crossmember.

yeah they quoted me about the same. Why didn't you guys just use the shorter flat one for Tim's rig? Or am I going to need the extra 1/2" in height and the angle?

We only had the 2625 with offset mounts at the time. We didn't have the 2570 flat mount and Autozone wanted $90 for the 2570...Tim could make one for cheaper than that so we just modified the 2625 bolts. Since then I have bought both.

The 2625 that I had at the time required us to cut the studs and drill new holes for some new bolts. If we had the 2570, we could've used it without any issue - too bad Autozone wanted $90 for it.

i just wanted to post up that i have no useful info for this thread since i have an 89 but i would love to post up on joshs thread. i might grab some rum though

Just to highjack your thread, I have to tell you I am into the third week of tring to get the replacement parts for my busted axle and hub parts. I have the old warn Hub conversion kit, that was sold to Randys Ring and Pinion and they changed all the part numbers for everything . . . and even changed the name of some parts . . .

I spent $4.10 plus shipping for a DS 42773, I was told it is the nut spacer they didn't stock from Warn and the bronze spacer COMW38361 is now what they use in the kit in it's place.

I have no use for this part at all, it has no place in the hub conversion, at all, it will not fit anywhere!

And I still need to find out the right part number, for the part that I don't know what they renamed it to . . .

You should ship them the hub and let them figure it out!

I just got the new tranny mount in. Thanks for the help Josh.

My old mount was broken in the back and half way broken in the front, glad I went through everything. Now I have new motor mounts, tranny mount, control arm bushings, track bar bushings and sway bar bushings!

oatmeal stout is good.
josh lets go wheeling

i like to hijack josh's threads also.

right now i am looking out the window of my motorhome.
we are parked about 40' from the umpqua river in elkton, oregon.
totally beautiful!
we towed the green xj so we can cruise around & check out the sights.

don't forget: hollister trip on jan 8th.

I just want to say that I got rid of an ugly wart with just two applications of Compound W. I'm pretty happy about that. Sorry for hijacking Josh's thread.

i've done a couple tranny mounts on my 96 and 87 and i've always used the angled and off-centered one as they're both lifted. They were both the same part, it was around 40 bucks a year or two ago. You'll want to consider your driveline angles when putting in the mount (meaning your lifted jeep will most likely do better with the angled one depending on your axle is set up)...higher part of the mount towards the front of the jeep, lower part of the mount to the back so that its all angling down toward your axle. simple stuff here guys, i def gave it a double take the first time though as mine was shotty to.

Oh and i didn't change mounts when i went from a 242 to a 231 t case, works fine.

Simple stuff but a bitch to get the right part from the parts store.

Thanks to Sean, Tim and Kelly for jacking the thread with increasingly pointless info. :kissyou:

Edit: Not to forget Jon's generous contribution and Dave.

Thanks again to Sean for the cross member, it was in way better condition than mine.
