2001 Jetta VR6

My girlfriend really wants to buy one. She found it a VW dealer, with a warrentee with 30k. I'm not up on my VW's, what should I look at besides the usual stuff. Thanks.

I have heard of electrical gremlins and other things but have no personal experience. Personally would go for the TDI....... but that is me.

Its a cool car and pretty quick, but the problem is that Jettas have gone really down hill as far as reliability. JD Powers had them in the bottom 5 for reliability. Also, Consumer Reports (last time i checked) had the Jetta on their list of used cars to avoid. The Passat is supposed to be much more reliable. Another negative is that parts are really expensive for them.

VR6's are cool and all...but the 1.8T is good stuff. Better gas mileage, the car is lighter up front(handles better), and with a couple of mods, its faster than the VR6 anyway. My wife drives an '04 1.8T Jetta, and before my current XJ, I had a 1.8T GTi, nice cars, some of the best quality interiors of ANY car out there. As stated above, VWVortex.com is the place for info...kind of like the of the VW world.

also, with gas prices today, teh VW website says both the 1.8T and VR6 require premium unleaded...
