"I have asked several parts stores about a replacement fuel filter and all have responded not available.... does anyone know where this filter is and if i can replace it??? I found a filter on teamcherokee.com but was not sure if this was for my machine. 2001 4.0

the fuel filter is inside the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. have fun!~

there should also be an inline one or two somewhere...

just follow the lines.

i had to change my fuel pump last summer... ...and i had a full tank with no helpers. basically, i used 4 cinderblocks cause i didnt have a floor jack and i stair stepped the tank down 6 inches a couple of times.

long story short, go for a drive till youre out of gas to make it easier..

iirc, its not really in the tank, the strainer is, but since i just swapped out tanks and fuel pumps i know that the filter and regulator are a one piece unit on top of the pump assm outside the tank, you take the tank down and remove the small metal band that holds the reg and filter in place, next using two screwdrivers (as it reads in fsm) pry carefully up, its held in place with some o rings, it is available from moparparts.com for somewhere around 80 bucks!

lazarus is right, they only real "filter" is on top of the pump module. it's a regulator/filter combo. the filter-thing on the bottom only functions as a strainer, and shouldn't really ever need to be replaced.
