2 jeep build thread/blog.

Chromos will help a lot.

Well this jeep may never be done, but this overtime money's gotta go somewhere. Picking these up for the front tomorrow.

3 link and coil overs front, 4 link and air shocks rear, my new 37" creepys, and I think I'm going to order 5.38 gears. It's going to be like wheeling an entirely new rig if I ever finish it.

Badass. My ZJ will be getting this treatment one day.

sounds like a great build coming together. cant wait to see it all done.

Even better, they are 275's not 175's. with a 250 tender and a 275 primary it will have a 130lb effective rate until the slider hits the stop followed by a nice firm 275 to absorb the big hits. Stock is 120, so it should ride like a caddy on the street. Now I'm going to have to find a deal on some front bump stops as my prothanes won't work any more.

Found this very interesting http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/moto...ce/1532282-strong-box-underdrive-doubler.html. Any body seen these? I love the idea of using 1 of these with a ford 205 behind it. It would give the option of 2-1,2.73-1, and 5.4-1. I could run twin sticks for front digs and 2lo options and the total length would only be 21.4" barely long than a 231 without sye at 19". I could probably stretch my wheelbase enough to run my driveshaft I already have. What do you guys think?

If I didn't already have a d&d setup waiting to go in I would pick this up in a heartbeat. No cutting the floor to fit a flipped 231 case is a big plus to me. And you can clock the shifting location as well.

Damn that's sweet . Seems way cheaper than an atlas. Very tempting

At the very least it's only 60$ to have a rear ds shortened. Maybe 100$ to have the front lengthened.

So you would have to flip the np205 to driver drop, it looks like the np205 hangs low , but not sure if you flipped it?

edit: I see there were driver drop 205s. Did they 1310 CV outputs ?

Ford 205's were all drivers drop. Yokes are available in 1310,1350 and 1410. I don't have a 205 currently, but see them on craigslist for $200 all the time. The way I built my rear crossmember for my 4 link it hangs 2" below the frame rails anyway, so I shouldn't have to give up too much more clearance with the 205. I may need to notch the rubicon express belly pan/skid some for front driveshaft clearance. It's all speculation right now and I'm going to finish the 4 link and air shocks in the rear and swap in my new coilovers up front before I pull the trigger on trying a doubler set up. Our 1st big trip of the year is always rubicon for Memorial Day so I've got 3 months to get this thing dialed.

a ford np205 for 200$ would definitely be cool. 835.
custom crossmember might add some $$$ for steel , say 50$ max and a day or two of figuring it out.
60$ to shorten rear DS
100 to lengthen front.
say 100$ for a 1310 yoke or two.
throw in 100$ for shift rails and stuff like that
so 835+50+60+100+100+100 ~ 1245$. sell SYE kit for say 140$. so 1100$ net cost . Ball park, give or take.

About what I figured, except I have plenty of steel laying around, so no cost there. And the sye will go on the wj if I go this route. Time will tell. Could also run an adapter u joint for whatever yoke comes on the tcase. Just seems so much cleaner than the box for rocks half a tcase doublers.

Decision has been made to swap in a new axle in the rear of the wj. Yes, chromos would probably fix the axle snapping issue, but there too many pros to going to something beefier. Probably going to be a dana 70 because there are so many out there for cheap. We are going to build some long arms for the rear while we are at it as I didn't like seeing how much the rear pushed up under the jeep when she was backing up against a rock on the last hollister trip. Going to stick with 3.73's and probably throw a spartan in the 70.

Just think too if you where to break the chromos and buy another set of those. I remember seeing a dana 70 with 4.56 go for 100$ out here. You will be very happy with that axle and it will be cheap. And you can recover costs by selling the WJ 44 with locker as well.
