2 jeep build thread/blog.

Finally picked up the 1.5"x.25 wall Dom to build my lowers. 42" bolt to bolt. Can't wait for my .045 conversion kit to show up Thursday to start burning in the brackets and get this jeep back on the road. I've got a 3 day weekend coming up and I'm itching to get back to some wheeling.

Lookin good man! Anxious to see how it turns out

Figuring the Heims I had, bushings were free, all steel used for brackets and crossmember was free, and I only had to buy the 7' of 1.5" Dom for this entire project, I'll only have about $80 in it and about 20-30 hrs fabbing. The wagoneer leaves flexed like crazy, maxing out my 14" Bilsteins in each direction, but allowed way too much axle wrap. I'll be happy if I retain most of the travel while eliminating the wrap, wheel hop, and rear driveline carnage

looking good man. I need to link mine sometime over winter possibly. have most everything. just need to do it.

Ya, I don't know why I waited so long. I know the uppers being so short is not optimal, but they were free and fab was minimal. If I don't like the way it performs, they will be mounted on top of the dif and triangulated opposite the lowers ending up nearly the same length. I never would have built it with such a difference in length without having installed the rubicon express jk 4 link a few weeks ago. The uppers on that kit remain in the factory location while the lowers are nearly 40" long. That kit retains the factory trac bar and isn't triangulated, but seemed to ride well while the flex was great.

She's finally sitting on her own weight again. Uppers are stock jk rear uppers. Mounted about 7" above leaf spring perches at the axle and in the front leaf spring hanger. Lowers are 39" long and triangulated about 40 degrees converging at new crossmember. About 10" verticals seperation at the axle and 4~5 at the frame. Springs are jku rubicon fronts, but feel too soft. Shocks aren't installed yet but will be 14" travel Bilsteins on hoops through the floor. Still need to finish up some welding, rebuild a rear shaft, fill the tcase, make some lower shock mounts and install shocks, figure out some bump stops, and install my new winch solenoid. Looking forward to wheeling again soon.

Damn you are moving fast! sounds awesome! and like a lot of work . say goodbye to axle wrap and hello to hopefully a more stable rig.

The best part is I only had to buy $60 worth of Dom and a few pounds of welding wire. Everything else I had laying around. May end up relocating the tank and cutting the back off of her for a 90 degree departure angle now that there's nothing that needs to stick out past the rear axle.

Sounds awesome , NOW post some pics!

The wife's wj needed rear shocks, so she's got the 14" bilstein 5100's now. I am looking at some fox 2.0 12" air shocks, anybody with experience with air shocks? I've been told 2.0's are too small for the front of an xj, but the rear doesn't weigh much. Mine weighs even less than normal with no rear hatch or doors. What do you guys think?

I was just looking at those exact air shocks. the fox 2.0s are meant for a 500 pound corner weight. my gut tells me they are probably too damn light for my 5000 pound pig. yours might be just light enough for em.

whats the spline count on that rear 60 youre running? Has it ever given you trouble? Is it locked?

Jeeps been on hold for a few weeks, working too much and trying to find a deal on shocks. Found a pair of tk1 racing 2.25 air shocks rated for up to 950lb corner weight. Picking them up before work tomorrow. Means some rework of my rear suspension setup, but I can't wait to drive this thing, new 4link and 14" air shocks should be badass

Air shocks will be sweet. I am really curious to see how well a 950LB shock does on a XJ.

Pics of the rear or GTFO!

I don't think you can GTFO someone from their own thread lol. Here's some poor quality photos from my muddy driveway. Crossmember is an old receiver hitch, made for real quick easy install.

With the new air shocks, I've got a set of rubicon 4 door springs, 19 fronts and 60 rears. Should lift a stock 2 door 1.5-2". $100 and a set of 4 rubicon monotube shocks $75. Jk had 3600 Miles on it so parts are like new.

Ya sorry I just really wanted to see pics thats all! looks good.

if you go with air shocks you'll be ditching the coils right and wont have to worry about capturing the upper coil with some sort of mount?

Yep, the upper on the passenger side is captured with a 3"x1/4" circle bolted thru the frame. Stopped working at that point when I started looking into air shocks.
