2.5 engine blocks

I just picked up a 94 cherokee 2.5 5 speed 4wd for $200. overall it's in decent shape for a beater but...
the engine is toast. all 4 cylinders are scored to shit. I could hone out 3 of them and fix that, but the 4th I'm not sure if I can do anything to save it.
anyways, I have another 2.5 block laying in the shop...it's a good block, from an 87 or 88 something like that. it had a spun rod bearing so it's got a bad rod and crank unless i wanted to have those fixed.

so, I'm wondering if the blocks are pretty much identical. can I just use the 94 gasket set? I'm going to swap the crank and one rod from the 94 into the other block, and rebuild it...I figure for $200 and another $150 worth of gaskets, rings, rod, and main bearings, I can't go wrong on a decent DD.

it's a bit rusty, but not terrible.

anyways, are the blocks the same from 87 on up? should I be using the 87 gasket set, or the 94 gasket set? i know top end will be the 94 set because of the MPFI.

FWIW it'll sell faster if you put a grill in it.....

I think your 94 has the ignition coil mounted on the block by 2 studs. The older block will not have the provisions for the coil. You can probably fab something to mount the coil, or drill and tap 2 holes in the block just like oem if you handy.

$200 bucks? I'd buy it too even with a 4 banger for that price running or not!

pretty simple outlander....yes, i posted pics, but you obviously just looked at those otherwise you'd see that i had just bought it. read first, post after.

anyways. yea $200. the 4.10 geared 297 joint non-disco front axle, and 4.10 geared 8.25 rear alone are worth more than that. plus it's a shallow (short input) ax5 in there...any transfercase will bolt up to it.

the rockers are rusted out on the d/s, and it's got a sorta rusty floor and rear wheel wells in front and behind them. oh, plus the rear storage area floor. other than that it's pretty nice...

thanks :D
