1999 WJ 4.0 Info Needed

Uncle has a 99' 4.0liter WJ.. Last year it had a bad headgasket.. he had his mechanic replace it..

A Year and 17k miles later it has a rod knock..

I signed up to help him swap the motor, I've done a few XJ 4.0liter swaps, aswell as a couple ZJ Motor swaps But i've never so much as riddin in a WJ.. let alone worked on one..


I'm being told the 99' WJ 4.0 motor is a 1 year only in the books.. Meaning the 1998 ZJ 4.0 wont fit (I expect this, Coilpack vs Dist) But ALSO the 00'-04' WJ motor wont fit either ???

Something about Motor mounts? Does anyone have any info/experience with this?

Scott, you need a 99+ WJ or an 02? TJ 4.0L "clean slate" block for the correct casting to bolt motor mounts in.

So a 99-04' WJ 4.0 will work.. Do you know why the Scrap yards and such show the 99' being a single year only?

Same reason they say YJs with the 4.0/3spd auto had 3.55s, and that an NP231 for a 4.0 YJ is $400 but one for an XJ is $100, they have their heads a mile up their asses on some stuff.
