1997 XJ, Coil-Over Project - Walker Evans Racing Shocks

i appriciate it.

are you planning on setting up some rear disc brakes?

huge improvment over the stock d35 drums!
This is my first time having a STANDARD JEEP. My other Wrangler race-car has DYNATRAC Axle with Disc Brake, and you can stop on a dime....

But this XJ,.... it sucks..., I mean you just can not tap on the brake and feel that the car is stopping at all.....:explosion

Looking good!

-Is this Jeep getting a cage? I would personally really like to see that upper coilover mount get tied in a lot more.

-Link geometry. With the upper links terminating on the same plane you will get a lot of anti-squat, especially when you have it at raised ride height for offroad. Mounting the chassis end of the lower links under the "frame-rail" and farther towards the front would help.

Im working on making up some front 1/2 brake adapters, were going to be selling them at very reasonible prices. Andhi after i got a set done at tested, consider one yours, free of charge!

1/2 brake adapters... you mean 1/2 ton brake adapters? run a 1/2t caliper on a D30?

and you might want to consider letting him pay for shipping, it's a bit steep!

No cage at all, coz' this would be used as a STANDARD SLEEPER XJ, with lots of performance underneath...

Link Geometry, I have tried and read alot on this subject, however, it is very difficult (and impossible ???) to translate what it means into my applicable language.
However, we have many trials and error based on our race car.

Yes, you are right, we will mount it towards the front a little bit farther, so it will be a little bit longer....

ps: I talked to Greg, and he said he will handle ev'thing, but just need to talk to you.

OK, thanks for the thought.

What is it for exaclty. What kind of BRAKES can I use ?
Do you mean it would be adapter for the rear ?

>Free of charge< WOW, thank you...., however please let me pay for it..., I used to do things that you guys do years ago when I was in college.

I have been dreamin of having a jeep since 1980 (high school) and CAN NOT AFFORD ONE !!!!. :sad1:
Finally after school and work, 1995 I have enough to buy a Jeep Race car, a jeep and anything that I wanted in related to Jeep.

I have been appointed as Distributors in Indonesia for SWAY-A-WAY , KINGSHOCKS, Four Wheel Parts, OMIX-ADA, etc. :sunshine:

So, I will gladly pay anything that is related to jeep, so that someone out there can be creative, start selling something....

Thanks...

I think those upper mounts really need to be tied in better than just the floor and wheel-well.

I got a notice that payment is pending, but I still haven't heard back from you on the two emails about buttons/joystick/paddles and about LEDs

LED > Would this be a single LED display that can change 4,3,2,1 or an individual Led for each ?

Pending > OK, just call him, the number is on the web site for the office, and he will gladly settle everything for me.

>Buttons/Joystick/Paddles, basically I already have MOMO steering wheel that has one push-button on either site. I can wire this into your box, if you provide me with 2 pair of wire for DOWNSHIFT and UP-SHIFT.

>BUT, If you just want to be more creative on the gear selector, you are free to look around, and propose what ever you thing is nice...., like I said before, make something nice so that people knows about this !!!!

Well, TODAY the REAR COIL-OVER set-up is FINISHED.

Coil Over shocks will be KINGSHOCKS 10" from US, Dual Rate Coil-Over shocks, with remote reservoir, dual KINGSPRING Coils from Australia.

Axle will be Painted in Metallic Silver, and Arms & Shocks mounting will be painted in Glossy RED.

I will post pictures of finished rear axle, with and without wheels.

As of tomorrow the AXLE will be sent away for paint, and we will move to the FRONT COIL-OVER Projects.

Thanks for any inputs....

LEDs- there will be 4 LEDs, when in 1st gear one will be lit, when in 2nd gear two of them will be lit, when in 3rd gear three of them will be lit, when in 4th gear all four will be lit. I think this will be the easiest way to see what gear you're in with a quick glance.

I could definitely leave wires for the buttons on the wheel. It might make it a little confusing to shift while you are turning, but I'll let you decide if that would be a problem. The email I sent you has my best ideas for other options.

Re: 1997 XJ, Coil-Over Project - Electronic Shifter

Up-Coming Electronic Shifter

> LED, I think this one looks Elegant (plus bling bling...), OK, seems it is the right size.

Paddle.jpg

Only compatible with the Sport Steering wheel
Make lighting quick shifts Formula One style
Mounts between your steering shaft and steering wheel
Cross-drilled T-shaped paddle levers, bent forward for use with dished steering wheel

Why dont we agree on this PADDLE TYPE ?..., and if I dont like it for any reasons, I can always take off the cable and mount it somewhere else...
PS: It is a real PADDLE for Rear Race Car. Not just a LOOK-A-LIKE for PLAYSTATION or Home Entertainment. SO I think this is strong enough

If you want to pay I guess ill have to let you, but you'll still be getting a discount. The adapters allow you to run chevy d44 calipers (1/2 ton, single piston) and much larger rotors on your dana 30.

They are completly bolt on, and should only take about 1 hour to intall. Unfortunatly they are taking us some time, we dont have access to a laser or water cutter, so everything we do is cut by hand with an angle grinder, hole saws, torch, plasma, etc. I'll let you know when theyre all set, i have to get some money together to buy some rotors.

Finished Rear Shocks UPPER - Mounting Point.

Shock-Mount-8.jpg

I was thinking about doing mine this way just a few weeks ago. I figured I would run a brace from the cage down to the mounts to give it the strength I thought it would need.

I like the idea for the upper bolt. I hadn't quite figured out how to do that yet.

The in-cabin Upper Shocks mounting will be braces with TIRANGLE steel plate welded to the chasis to strenghten the movement / torsional load from left to right as well as front to rear.

That would be the best. However, I am trying to keep the interior CLOSE TO STOCK as well as the LOOK from Outside.
I would like people to think that this is an ORNIDARY XJ !!!
