1997 4.0 engine for sale

Pulled from a 1997 ZJ with 141,000 miles. Appears to have a bad head gasket. Already pulled from engine and mounted on engine stand.

the bit about the bad head gasket could be making people a bit nervous. Just FYI a head gasket is a pretty easy job with the engine out of the vehicle like this, even if it's your first time it shouldn't take more thana couple hours in the garage.

You are basically offering a core. What is a core worth to an engine rebuilder? That is how it should be priced. Not trying to knock you, just sharing my thoughts.

Not really sure. I think I paid about 150 for a core when I replaced my engine.

You sure it's only a head gasket, here is what I found when I pulled my head

We ended up not pulling the head off so I can't be certain. We noticed that each of the exhaust ports has a small amount of rust in them while the intake ports were clean.

If you want, we'd be happy to loan you the tools here at the shop to pull the head if your interested. It shouldn't be too difficult since the engine as already out and on a stand.

I don't have time to come down there anytime soon, I need something to put in mine at least till I get the time to rebuild it (or stroke it) :scottm:

If it is just a head gasket it would be fairly easy to replace the gasket and the main and rod bearings and have a motor that would serve you well for a long time assuming the cam is not worn out.
