With engine running im only getting max 12.8 to 12.9 volts using a multi meter on the posts with clean and tight connections. will check for grounds as well. That may well be the culprit due to condition of wiring lol. Its a stock 90' xj with a poor maintenence record before I got it.
Woke up to a dead battery today. Put charger on and only showed 10 volts at first. Cleaned and tightened connections then showed 11 volts. Charged and it only shows maybe 12.8 volts ...went for a ride got back and it shows 12.2 volts. Is battery shot? Thanks.

Got real lucky with brakes no damage to rotor or pads. Did not over heat as I stopped as soon as it started smoking. No glazing or cracking. Caliper sprang a leak and pistons stuck. Thats was it. Replacing caliper tomorrow. Wheel bearings are fine no issues at all. Thanks again.

Follow up:
Ok took all your great advice and replacing pads, rotor and caliper on bad side. The pads have less than 500 miles on them is it still necessary to replace the other side? (I have them anyway) and someone else told me to be sure and check the wheel bearing as it may have overheated...
Lol I drowned the heep last week so that likely didnt help. Had new pads a month ago and worked fine till now. How do I get the calipers to release? Any way I can wire them open or something so I can drive (carefully) to work tomorrow? Parts houses are all closed for tonight! :(
Thanks

On my 90xj I had to hammer a socket on the nuts and just twisted the J bolts in half. They broke off pretty easily. Worse case if you can get the gas out fill the tank with water and cut away. A Dremel may work if ya got one?
Front disc brake locked up smoking and almost caught fire. I know drum brakes but never touched disc brakes. How do I get the pads to unlock and what may cause this? Had xj towed home and its my only DD and gotta work tomorrow. Thanks!

Mopar Chat/Jeeps! Was talking to a "list member" and he kept mentioning NAXJA so thought id pop over and have a look at what all this NAXJA talk was about! party1:
Then showed the wifey and she said:"Look at those pics, their a bunch of freaking lunatics!" So I joined! :)
A great tribute for a great friend. I mourn for your loss as I can see what you are sharing. Thank you for that. Take good care of Frankie cause you know thats what Joey would want. Try to remember that lives are not measured by the length of time, but by the good times spent together. Joey had...
I can use the same info for a 90xj. I need both lines that run through that clamp/bracket to the airbox. The end with the 90elbow broke and the rest were missing when I got the junk. Vac hose is no prob but need the elbow that goes into the valve cover. (and got plenty of zip ties) :)
thanx
