    photosensitive stoplights?!

Flashing your lights at the sensor does work, I've seen my brother-in-law do it. BUT, it's difficult to get the flashing pattern just right and IF you get caught, you're in BIG trouble (at least in Illinois you are). D.

    Dodge Dakota??

IMHO, DO NOT tow with a manual transmission. I used to tow a 2500 lb. enclosed trailer with a 2500 lb race car in it with a '89 Ford F-150 4x4 with 302 and 5 spd. It would pull just fine but getting started and maneuvering the rig were really tough to do and tough on the clutch. An auto box...

    XJ "Command-Trac" Question

Eagle, Is there something in the VIN (or elsewhere) that provides the ability to quickly determine if an XJ has Command Trac or Selec Trac (other than the xfer case shifter)? Also, doesn't the xfer case designation change to 232 (or 242) with Selec Trac (due to the additional internal diff)...

    1998 BMW 318ti

I spoke to my Dad today (10/22) and he will finish a roll of film and email the pictures to me. My parents are still in the 20th Century when it comes to photography. Hopefully, I can get the pictures to you in a day or two. Thanks, Dave.

Why we need to keep our XJ's running

Saw a similar article in the current issue of AutoWeek. Shoot, if it will perform the same off-road as an XJ, I have no problem not burning fossil fuels.

What is the proper forum for Miinnesota?

Same is true of Illinois. Guess we'll have to start our own chapter. Dave.

    1998 BMW 318ti

It's actually my Dad's car which is why I listed his phone number and location (Indy), which is different than mine. I'll shoot him an email today to see if he has any picutres of the car. I'll then forward them on to you at the posted email address. Thanks, Dave.

    Procedure for changing diff fluid?

Jeff's procedure sounds about right. I've never changed diff fluid on an XJ before but it's got to be easier than a Ford 9" (you have to remove the axles and pop the pumpkin). Something I do with eyes open! For the rear diff, you might want to raise the front of the truck a little (ramps or...

    Drums turned out of round

It's also possible that the drums were bad to begin with. Sometimes it's not possible to "true" a drum by turning it. I've always found that it's more cost effective to replace drums as opposed to turning them. That said, be careful when you purchase after-market parts. There are lots of...

    Newbie Questions - '97 - '00 XJ

Eagle - here's the link for the motor mount article: http://www.jpmagazine.com/howto/31818/index.html If that URL doesn't work in your browser's address window, go to www.jpmagazine.com and search for 'motor mounts'. You're looking for the article entitled, "The 4.0L Jeep's Weak Link". It...

    Newbie Questions - '97 - '00 XJ

First, thanks for the feedback. I'm very familiar with old Fords (Mustangs, Shelbys and (pre-78) Broncos. I can spot a FoMoCo 9" diff easily and figured there was a way to ID the 8.25" diff as well. Eagle - I will attempt to find the article concerning the motor mounts. Perhaps the article...

Is there an easy way to identify the Chrysler 8.25" rear diff and a 'high pinion' Dana 30? Thanks again - D.
