finally installed the rack extension *PICS*
I still need to get a couple more mounts or maybe a couple locking mounts to put on the second crossbar for added support. The yakima tire carrier is actually supported by the third cross bar.
I now have room to throw things up top besides the tire...
Well I got a trailer coming to me!!
Well, I got lucky and actually WON an M101A1 auction with Govliquidation.com this week! And boy did I get lucky.... there were 39 trailers up on auction, ranging in all kinds of condition. The one I got was actually one of the best 5 (from what I could tell...
So, if I may ask...to what extent do you plan to use your rack for? Likely not for the tire unless you are gonna use aftermarked crossbars.
I do plan on getting extra clamps for the other two crossbars I added when I put in the extention, that will spread the weight load out to 8 points...
well, thanks for the concerned input...but, I'll have to agree with Bruce... if i'm hit hard enough to give momentum to the weight of the tire on the rack (with no slack mind you) that it rips the crossbars clean off their mounts... the tire is the LEAST of my worries.

anyway, here's a few pics of the rack with my tire...
thanks for the info!
I am looking at one for general use, hauling stuff when needed vs borrowing/renting a trailer each time. And with the number of them hitting govt liquidation I hope to get a decent price.
I would like to use it for the option of going camping as well (if we ever get the...
anybody here regularly using a US military m101 trailer? not the Canadian 101 which is the same as the US m416 which are 1/4 ton capacity... but the US 3/4 ton trailers.
I was Wondering if its too much for an XJ. its only 1400# empty, and the max for XJ is 5K #s.
But, I was towing an enclosed...
heh... my slinkys are doing okay.... I actually have 4 crossbars... the 2 OEM and a couple others I added between. I have the extension on order and should be delivered next week. So I will definately take before and after pics with the extension. supposed to add 22 inches.
and as my signature...
as it was said already, words up... both lenses are the same, they are not driver/passenger specific. Adjusting them (when installed correctly) is same as regular, when I changed over i did not touch the adjustments at all.
see my pics below from the other thread.
Before (OEM lights) ...
