I finally finished the R/C crawler I've been working on this past year. Its not completely done, I guess - like a 1:1 Jeep, but it performs well enough. I still need to tweak some things. In particular, I need to glue the tire beads.

The R/C Jeep is locked front and rear, and has a crawl ratio of roughly 120:1. I can go lower, but its already slow as hell. I can almost walk faster than it at full throttle!

I just recently got a video camera, and the hardware to put videos online. Very cool. I can't wait to make some wheelin pr0n.

Anyway, the crawler build-up is documented for the most part in this thread in another forum:

Thats some cool stuff! Just curious, is that an expensive or inexpensive type of hobby? If its the latter, I may have to try it!

That was awesome. Did you build that from scratch or can you get a kit and make it?

Never mind. I read the thread you posted. Sounds like you have alot of time and research into it. Almost like building the real thing. :D

Well, it depends - its definately less expensive than full-size, 1:1 four-wheeling. But, if you're an obsessed R/C car maniac, always buying new cars and parts, I think it can probably get pretty damn expensive.

It cost me roughly $1500 from start to finish to build that R/C crawler - all new parts. That includes accessories like the radio, battery charger, etc. I spared no expense to build exactly what I wanted, and I'm very happy with the end result.

That being said, I'll never spend that much money on an R/C car again. That was a one-time thing for me. Jeeps and four-wheeling are my main interest! :)

You dont need that much $ to get into it tho. I was all into it and was into racing everything from my ThunderKing to my little Bolink legend and everything in between. none of mine cost that much. Its much like Jeeping, the more you plan to do with it the more it will cost, but it doesnt take tons of $ to get into and to have some fun.

BTW that is a really cool machine. After seing that crap that Nasa built for mars... I think it would be put to shame by those videos

Yeah, that's true! My buddy spent $200 on a Ready-To-Run Tamiya Pajero 4WD rally car, and the cost-to-fun ratio is much better than mine, IMO. :)

Sweet! i have thought about getting my old Blazin Blazer out of the closet a few times. Where do you live? That first shot reminded me of the TN river around Chatanooga.
