Bluegrass

Some of the best true musicians play bluegrass. I got into it when I was about ten. We used to go to the Stroh's Bluegrass Festival at Meadow Brook (Oakland Unversity - Rochester MI).

Good times!

I cant beleive with all these Bluegrass afficinatos, Bella Fleck was never mentioned. More of "new grass" than classic Blue Grass, but awesome music. They have arguably the best bassist to ever live, Victor Wooten.

There is some cool covers out there. One for instance will appeal to you Metallica fans out there: Iron Horse - Fade to Bluegrass
Inter Sandman

Iron Horse - Black and Bluegrass
Crazy Train(Ozzy)

Stairway to Heaven (Zeppelin)

Enjoy!

Good stuff for sure. It kinda helps I live a few counties away from the annual Bean Blossom Bill Monroe Festival :D

Flatt and Scruggs do some awesome banjo/guitar work as well.

For some newer stuff, I like Little Big Town, they bring some good banjo work to modern country.

The Metallica Cover is going on the myspace! I prefer Punk...but Bluegrass is in my blood bein' that my Pappy is from Kentucky.

Kejtar, you rock!! I can't believe a SoCal guy is into it...there is mention of some mighty fine pickers in this thread...dont leave out Vince Gill and props to the oldtimers like Bill Monroe (God rest his soul)....and Flatt & Scruggs..my Mom sang with them a few times....and Travis Tritt can pick when he has a mind to...but my most favorite picker of all time was my Grand Father...he had a 5 string banjo and a fiddle and a old mandolin...I used to beg him to play when we went to visit.

Sadly, I inherited not a particle of his musical ability...now I have Foggy Mountain Breakdown stuck in my head.

And... lemme add to that, I'm not from this continent originally :D Every so often if someone bums a ride @ an event they leave my XJ slightly disoriented due to the music selection ;) I think that not enough folks in this world appreciate bluegrass :D

To add to the names already mentioned couple others that come to my mind are: Alison Krauss and Wayne Erbsen.

Don't forget about EmmyLou Harris. Also, Dave Matthews will jam out with Tim Reynolds quite a bit on bluegrass riffs. Good stuff.

Doc and Meryle, Ralph Stanley, ricky skaggs had a few decent tunes

I like Bluegrass...
in moderation.

Same with Folk, Country, Rock, Classical, or Techno...

and never on the trail.

For me, trail is for the experience of getting away from it all, not for bringing it all with me.

Different strokes I guess ;)

The local community based radio station, WORT (seriously) plays Bluegrass every Friday morning. Every once an again, I still tune in. Good times :D

LMAO

Ask Keith Motorman about my music selections: He rode with me on the way up the hill to the pay station at Tellico, and I wanted to see how much fun he could stand... think chain-smoking with the windows up an the heat on full-cremate (even though it was like 75°) with old Warren Zevon blaring, doing my best Dukes of Hazzard/WRC full-throttle oversteer slides around blind mountiain corners. "It's a Fine day to die, aye mate?"

The next victim who dared ride with me that day got treated to my leprechaun music and Pantera.

I like bluegrass, metal, and lately been getting into scottish pipe & drum music. Can't take much rap or opera though. That shit'll make a man go crazy

:) pipes and drums are amazing. The depth of sound and feeling they can relay is amazing. I go to scottish fairs in the area whenever I can manage. Not many things beat drinking a good dark beer and listening to some pipes.

If you only listen to Scottish pipes, you miss out on some of the Celtic experience.
The Irish and IIRC Spanish pipe also.

Besides, the Irish make better beer ;)

O.k I think everyone agrees live music and beer go together like milk and peanut butter. and if theres bag pipes involved, then that just sweetin's the deal.
