    Belt Tension

So it NEVER slips is the correct tension. Anthing less causes slipping and heat which will cause the belt to fail FAR sooner than any heating the belt may have from friction. I've never felt any heat from a correctly tensioned belt. The only time I've felt heat is when a belt has slipped. You...

HELP: Weird 89 cherokee starting/running issues

Loose torque convertor bolts can also cause a knocking noise. Something to check if the engine was out recently. They should be installed with locktite.

    Quick OBA q's

Look at it this way, the pump maybe smaller but the motor driving it is way bigger and drives at a higher rpm.

Any adverse affects with Waggoner Dana 44 swap

I ran a D44 front(waggy housing with dodge knuckles/brakes) and a Dodge 3/4ton d60 rear with the stock MC. Pedal travel was a bit far but they worked better than the stock ones ever did. I was running 36" IROKS. Using all Dodge stuf from the knucles out will give you a 5 bolt or 8 bolt pattern...

    CB Power

Why? A large part of my job is installing accessories(radios, beacons, aux lights, laptop mounts, etc) into trucks. I ALWAYS wire off the battery using appropiate fuses, bus bars and relays. I avoid tapping into the factory wiring and fuse boxes as much as possible. I've replaced two fuse boxes...

All the cons of carpet removal in one thread

I went for 3 yrs with no carpet after pulling it to fix rust holes(por15 and the roll on liner). Noisier yes! Hot HELL YA! After planning a trip to Moab I decided to put it back in. Glad I did it was hot down there but with the carpet back in and the AC going it wasn't too bad. Before putting...

    high clearance gas tank mod

The bottom of the XJ is curved so the gas tank fits in it like a cradle. I 'm thinking it would be difficult to get the tank strapped down 100% solid to prevent it from moving. Even a little bit over time could wear a hole thru. People have worn holes thru tanks from having deris between the...

How low can I go? Tire pressure!!!

10.5s on a 8" rim? Not that hard to believe given the right situation. I commonly run my 13.5s on an 8" rim down to 12psi, no problems. I'd go lower but have no way to air back up for the highway trip home.

    changing to flat top knuckles...??

Yes I have locking hubs, I'm actually using a set from a Ford right now, they are pretty much all interchangable. Yes I had to have it machined down and drilled/tapped(driver's side was done at factory, just needed to do the passenger side). I have access to a milling machine at work so I did...

    changing to flat top knuckles...??

Nope, on the Dodge knuckles the bracket bolts on from the backside.

    changing to flat top knuckles...??

OR just buy all Dodge stuff(from knuckle out). All 1/2ton Dodge 4x4s from 1980 thru to 1993 had flat top knuckles and 5 bolt patterns. Very easy to find all the parts in one place. Most likely any parts wrecker will have all you will need. The 3/4tons are the same but use an 8 bolt wheel...

    optima batt.

My red top is going on 3 years, I have a power draw somwhere on my XJ that I cann't find, so I've killed it stone dead atleast a dozen times and since I don't drive it often it would sit like that for a week or more. Everytime I boosted it and it came back. Those of you who had them die where...

to all daily drivers running 35's, what's your axles/gears/lift?

I'd don't DD mine, its a trailer queen but if you do run 35" on a DD plan on putting some money into a steering box brace or frame reinforcment, or even better ram assist. I ripped the steering box right off the frame while driving to a trail head on a gravel road. Things just got looser and...

    dual batteries,receiver winch, opinions.

I wheeled with a guy who had portable winch on his Toyota, twice it was of no use to him, once cause the hole he was stuck in didn't leave enough room to slide the winch in, second he slid backwards into a tree(icy trail) and the way the he had it stored in the box he needed to open the taligate...
