About 85 degrees out there and I was running 210 when I wasn't beating it. When playing hard 225-245 was pretty common. I could do about four long hard climbs (about 1/2 to 3/4 miles total) before hitting the 225-245 range, then had to drive around slow till it went back to 210.
I think not!
Don't waste your money on a stroker when you can have this for just a little more effort and money.[/URL]
I think V8 swaps are cool but they're a lot more effort and money than a stroker so don't let anyone be fooled into thinking it's just an easy bolt-in job. It isn't. Anyone who's done a V8 swap will tell you that many man hours went into it, and there are many pitfalls for the unwary.
You need to be prepared to do a lot of fabrication yourself and have the necessary knowhow, tools, garage space, time, and deep pockets to make a V8 swap a success. I take my hat off to those Jeepers who did succeed with theirs.
I know... just teasing in good fun. After a year and a half I finally got to where I want to be and I'm proud of it.
I know that the stroker guys love what they have and for most of them it is more than is needed. Where I live I have access to these dunes and a stroker just won't cut it. Will a stroker get you to the top? Yes. Will it be this much fun? No.
I have contributed plenty to FrankZ's thread about the trials and tribulations of a V8 swap.
So you're saying the standard inline six can't get you up to those dunes? Or is it just really slow?
and I want a ride next time I am up in Hesperia, MI
When I was running the standard 4.0L, I had to hit the bottom of the dune at about 40-50 mph and hope that I had enough to make it over (about a 50% success rate). With the stroker all that was needed was a 20 mph rollling start with a much better success rate. Now I can start from the bottom dead stopped and slide wheels locked (sometimes with air under the fronts) over the top every time. Its all about having enough HP to turn the tires fast and stay on top of the sand.
Thanks for the response. I've always been more interested in wheeling in the sand than anywhere else. Maybe I'll think about a stroker in the future. Not sure if I want to destroy my MPG with a V8.
Actually if I baby it I can get 18 mpg w/ the 5.3L. When I would baby the 4.0L I could only get 15 mpg.
Don't strokers need premium gas too?

You're probably right. Even if you have a blown stroker and are quicker than a N/A V8, nothing sounds like a V8 screaming at 5000+rpm.
