THe NAC Lots-O-Tech Thread

who drills and taps knuckles for hi steer?

Billy, I HIGHLY recommend getting in touch with John Nutter from John Nutter Enterprises. Great guy to deal with, excellent service, and he had my knuckles finished and shipped the same day he received them.

I'll look into that. I finally found the thread on pirate where Ballistic advertises drilling them, but I'm skeptical that I'd get them back in a reasonable amount of time.

What does everyone have to say about motive gears? I dont think they have 4.88's but for $185 for 4.56 is better than $230 for nitro's set. Or should I shut my mouth and get what I pay for?

I built mahself a trackbar
i kept blowing through the bushings on the tnt trackbar and the superflex joint was shot. the trackbar bracket is still welded to my old jeep and im never cutting it off.
so I built diss
it uses 7/8" heims
misalignment spacers
9/16" bolts
tubing inserts plug welded and circumference
the tubing is 1.75x1/4" wall dom
each bracket is essentially 3/16" thick hitch tubing. the upper bracket uses a $8 piece of 1/4" plate from home depot which I didn't even have to cut.
I bent the trackbar using my good ol' harbor freight pipe bender.

keith, read the last little bit of your post. you answered your own question

 guess I'm in for some fun with my d30 gears I got then...

apparently self clearancing isn't limited to suspension and exhaust components

No, that D30 is in a ZJ. That piece under the carrier that looks like a gear is actually the shield behind the pinion that got chewed to look like a gear. Pulling it in the garage sounded like it was crunching bearings.

Ah, was gonna say I didn't think mine was THAT bad :wierd:. Though I expect there to be less fluid and more sludge in mine, at least that's what I found with the 8.25.

Ouch, I was grinding my teeth over $230. 3 bills might give me a stroke.

You going to run the 8.25 out back? I forget. What tire size? 33s or 35s?

If I were you, I'd go for an 8.8 or D44. Not to hate on the 8.25, but 29-spline is eh. I twisted stock 30-spline D44 shafts on 35s.

If you're staying on 33s then 8.25 is cool.

So question for y'all... you think the unibody took much/any damage? Doesn't look like it, airbags didn't deploy or anything, so I am thinking it might be OK. Then it would just be a matter of dealing with getting a clean MA title once the repairs were done. I dont think it should be too bad to repair and re-inspect; I just don't know why it would have a salvage title with minor damage which makes me take a 2nd thought about whether or not the unibody is fawked.

That does not look like much damage at ALL. No way to be sure without checking it out though.

XJs get salvage titles easily because they don't hold much value. They probably have a 1999 XJ booked for like $2500, so if it costs more than that to get it looking good again (which I guarantee it would at a body shop) then it's done.

I'm planning on running the 8.25 with 33's untill I'm out of school. Funds are tight like with everyone else. Once I do get out I plan on running a similar set-up to what you are currently running.

Thats what I thought damage wise; and I guess that makes sense in terms of the salvage title. I think I am going to town on this XJ; making it mine. Hopefully driving up to the yard tomorrow or sometime next week to take a look at it.

Would be sweet if I could pick it up and have the header panel, lights, etc with me and fix it in the lot and drive it straight to the DMV to get it inspected :laugh3:
