Zombiefest

im there now, look for the red LJ in front of the white class c rv with an american flag on the ladder.

stop by and say hi,

Zombiefest turned out to be pretty dang cool. For those that didn't read through the CO4x4 thread I linked to above, the gist of this thing is that a guy that owns 250 acres of land just off Parker Rd. has set it up as a 4x4 playground. He invited anyone and everyone that wanted to come by to come wheel around and hang out. I estimate 50-100 rigs were there when I left. Here are some of the things they had going on:

1. Rock garden water crossing. This thing was pretty extreme. We watched several seriously built rigs struggle through it. It claimed the lives of a few u-joints and axle shafts too.

2. They had several stacks of old junker cars for you to wheel over.

Even 40s won't clear a van... :D

Here I am with one wheel stuck in what used to be the passenger seat and the front end digging in to the sand. As I was coming off of this one, I got turned sideways, dug myself in real deep, and had to be yanked out.

3. Some gnarly mud bogs

4. There were trails with various obstacles throughout the property, but of course I managed to forget to take pictures of any of those. There was one obstacle in particular, a very steep, loose dirt climb that we spent some time on. I got my first taste of why it may be better to have a rear locker only than a front locker only. ;)

There were several XJs in attendance. I snapped pictures of a few - hollar up if they happen to be you!

Wow, I thought I had pics of way more than 3, but I guess that's all I've got. Anyway, this little shindig was a blast. I'm bummed out I only got to go for a few hours!

Man that place looks like a blast! What's the story on the land owner? Did he charge admission? Is he a member over on CO4x4?

It'd be very cool to see if we could hold an XJ event there.

Hopefully his neighbors don't rat him out and start filing complaints and whatnot........ some of those houses are pretty close by. If that creek flows in and out of his property, that'd surely get him shut down.....

But........ he's definitely living MY dream! :D

Nope, no charge for admission. The owner is a member on CO4x4 - jollyroger I think it is. I didn't get a chance to meet him, but I met a couple of the other Rock Zombie Outlaw guys. They were great guys that seem to really enjoy putting this event on.

One of the guys said that creek is Cherry Creek. As I watched all the silt getting churned up I kinda wondered the same thing about someone compliaining... It's certainly weird when you're wheeling through some trees and stuff and then you come around a corner and BAM! There's a housing development. :laugh3:

There are tons more photos being posted here: http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=133542

I forgot to mention the bonfire... I had to leave long before they got to that.

Did you see my friend Matt there yesterday? He's the one with the 4Runner who went with us and had the paint can explode on the trail.

He said he had a blast, and enjoyed testing out his new detroit locker.

i was there with the LJ and the RV, had a blast, bent a tie rod on the rock garden. the owner plans to have a couple of events there however it is private property and they passed the word that it is an invitation only event ie don't stop by expecting to be able to wheel there except at an event like this weekend.

here are some of the pics i took. i have some video as well but i need to convert it

Dang, that looks like so much fun! Maybe next time I can request some time off and head on out!

damn looks fun...wish i wasnt broken.....
let me know of any trips out there again...i REALLY want to go!!!!!!!!!

spent some time in some friendly heckling of some toyota guys who came out with their rigs painted "jeep recovery team" here is the video of them getting owned by a hill that didn't stop the jeeps

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rF4xcrG8DY

I see those guys all the time around Highlands Ranch and at the Waffle House off County Line and Broadway. Seem like goobers...... :dunno:

Friggin' hilarious you telling the guy "looks like you need a Jeep" :roflmao:

i think if you paint that crap on your rig it had better be able to perform better than the vehicle you are making fun of. if it doesn't then you need to be prepared to get crap for it.

im also in the ranch and see those trucks all over as well and i was having a blast finally being able to dish a little out. getting it on video for the world to see was priceless :)

btw that was the edited version, he tried to get up that hill for 15 minutes and never made it farther than you see in that clip. while the jeeps went up and down many times just to rub it in.

That was great! He could barely even go over the little bump when he was leaving. That was priceless. Maybe next time he trash talks like that he needs to be sure he can back it up ! Truely priceless!

Maybee that why both of those guys have those trucks for sale on craigs list so they can get a jeep.........:looser:

yeah they have been up there for like 3-4 months now and they want a rediculous amout for those things...............:D
