Allright here goes. I might inherit my mom's '95 ZJ limited 2wd with the 4.0 and auto. My question is, can I convert it to 4wd using some XJ parts? I allready have my '89 XJ for off-road fun but I was wondering how hard it would be to do the conversion. Thanks.

Should not be any different but I would try to find a donor ZJ for the hardware and the tranny/transfer. XJ front should fit as some people use ZJ front springs in XJ's. Sounds interesting though, might want to take a camera and snap a few pics of a 4x4 ZJ and then just lay under there and compare them.

Yeah I'm trying to locate a 4x4 ZJ to take some pics of. The only thing that troubles me is the auto in the ZJ and the XJ are different aren't they? Also the ZJ uses the 242 and the 249 where as most XJ's have the 231s. Lastly, what about drive shaft lengths and the axle widths? I have heard the the XJ has a 60" axle and the ZJ uses 66". Does the sound right to anyone?

Check out parking lots, thats what I did when we were down in florida, I had never seen a 2wd XJ till we pulled into a dennys in orlando. Our trooper was parked next to it and I grabbed the floor mat for something to kneel/lay on so's I could get a better look. Heard the wife say 'He's never seen a 2wd cherokee before', the owners were right there getting ready to leave....
