They dont recommend them, due to no wear-out parts. and the caps might wear a bit faster then Expected. But rebuild kits (caps) I think are only like 45$ for 4 caps.

Say it put these in my rig that gets driven to the trails and back but isnt a DD. Would these be ok? Dunno if i wanna break chromos before a U joint though

I wouldnt think theres any real issue to DD these even. It just takes a bit more disipline to keep em greased.
