got offered a 16x7 car trailer today, the price is right it has brakes and new lights but one little cathch, the axles are solid mounted (no springs). Am i an idiot for considering this or will the lack of springs make no difference.... discuss, and with promptness im supposed to call this guy tomorrow

My gut says look for a different one. That trailer probably won't always be on smooth pavement you know. Then again I don't really know anything about trailers.

thats wht my gut tells me too.... theres just nothing in the used market right now, at least with brakes. and i dont wanna drop 2k in a new one

could you not add the springs later? if the price is THAT right. does he have any pics of the trailer?

if your patient and wait around you WILL find the right one.... there are some good deals that pop up around here everyonce in a while.

course i am just lucky that my girlfriends dad has a car hauler that he never uses. therefore i use it! :D

I know the small trailer I drag around without spring's sucks. It bounces around and makes for an awful ride. The right bump will get it airborne. But this is a big size difference, mine is lawn tractor sized. I can't wait to find a bantam or something with suspension.

I have drivin around with a U-Haul trailer that did not have springs and that thing was bouncy. All of the bounce came from the tires. The one one with springs had little to no bounce. That is because the leafs took the bounce. Don't go with it. Every bump will beat up the tires. I don't know what else you wan to haul. But like most people they use they it for a bunch of stuff. Most people don't know how to measure the weight of anything. Can the wheels take that kind of abuse? That is up to you to decide. For me I would never pull a trailer without springs of some kind.

:loveu: That is awesome!!!

Doug, you can get axles for a trailer with brakes for about $200.00. If you find a used one with no brakes it can be upgraded pretty easy. Just a thought.
IMO I wouldn't buy one without springs. I know they don't "soften" the ride that much but they do flex with the terrain.

the springs help keep the ride simi leveled when you hit a bump because they absorb the shock of hitting the bump without them your tires will take all the impact, hit a big enough bump with your jeep on top and there goes a tire...

unless you plan on adding the springs (which i wouldnt think would be that difficult) dont buy it. nuff said.

i think this may be what happens, may be out in your neck of the woods tomorrow if the measurements come back right ;)
