Your family?

My dad loves to go wheeling. He's finishing up his CJ-7 so we can go together.
My mom could really care less.
My fiancee doesn't mind the occasional trip now and then, but she says she'd rather be driving her own vehicle (she wants either a FS Bronco or a FS Scout) because she gets motion-sickness when she's not behind the wheel.

its kind of a family obsession with us. started with my moms folks, and has just continued down the ages. my dad doesnt care long as its not his rigs, and i dont spend his money to fix my broke ones lol.

My folks are in FL and retired, so their input is niether requested nor offered.

My brother went with me on a local trail last Labor day and had a ball, unfortunately he's in MA.

My 15 year old twin daughters just don't get it. One would rather be home in the A/C listening to music and writing stories and the other would rather do anything else, as long as it was in total comfort.

The only one who wants to go is the soon-to-be ex-wife. Even with that going FOR her, I aint taking her....

Do what you like for yourself. Find friends that share a common interest. If you waste time trying to convert others or compromise you'll never be truly happy.

Live and let live.

What kinda girls are you raisin'?! lol... sounds like my sister, though. Maybe they'll understand once they can drive?

As for what everyone else has said... yes, I agree with you all. Screw the family if they don't want to. I'm going to meet all kinds of people interested in this sport if I go to runs and such. It's just annoying to know the people you are closest to hate one of your passions. :-/ Oh, well. I'll just run them over when I get a huge lift. :-P jk.

My wife went out on a 1-2 rated trail with me when the XJ was one week off the showroom floor. She said it hurt her back to much and hasn't gone since.

My sister went on the same trail, and later to Moab with me, she now is a member, posts as rightseatsis and has her own 01 XJ. and as much as I hate to admit it, a better driver than me off-road.

My third daughter likes to hang out around the camp fire but has not gone on a trail in awhile, she used to ride in my CJ all the time.

The other three daughters are not interested and neither is my son in law.

Oh well, their loss. But with me the only one really interested in off-road it is hard to get time away and money.

My mom doesn't really have an opinion. She does get kinda pissed though when I need to borrow her jeep since mines down:D She does like it though in a sense. My dad loved to work on his car and on vehicles in general, so shes happy to see me carry on part of him. It got me into Mechanical Engineering, so thats a plus. But I figure it like this...parent could get all pissed at their children choosing to "mod" their vehicles, OR they could be happy that theyre not spending all theyre money on drugs huh? (Yes I do know some people who went the latter route)...

You could also occasionally remind her that wheeling is about the lowest-speed motorsport around, with the possible exception of observed trials motorcycling.

my wifes says she doesnt care,, She just thinks I'm going through some mid life thing..lol

It was my wife's idea to get the XJ. We bought it with the intention of building it.

My mom didnt care until things started breaking. My dad doesn't like any type of money spending unless completely necessary. My friends parents felt the same way but his dad is into Jeeps so we now have an 87 YJ trail beater (4", 31x11.50 LTBs). My girlfriend loves to go with us and get muddy.

well....mom doesn't quite get it yet, so she doesn't see why i'm always outside messin with the Jeep or wanting to buy stuff for it. She's slowly comin around though, I've taught her alot about her own Jeep and she's starting to get there....

step dad had an old CJ back in his day. He's talkin about wanting to get another one and fix it up :yelclap:. Currently has a Silverado 4x4 that i'm itchin to see what it can do...

As for dad....well dad absolutely hates anything american. spent his whole life working on porsche's and german cars. Owned several v-dubs (the older bugs) and atleast 1 Audi that I know of. Now drives a Honda and swears it's the greatest thing since the wheel. That's one thing I just DONT understand:dunno:

uhh your dad has good taste not so much if he is into FWD vw or audi. The quatro systems are cool though, and if he is into porsche 911, or boxster, thats about as cool as you can get besides a lotus elise.

Now a honda is a nice appliance. Hope its a s2000 or maybe prelude, and not a 4 banger accord :gag: I dont hate american but your old man can do allot worse than german sports cars! I have never even owned anything foreign, but i will have a turbo 911 someday (old and used) and a elsie hopefully.

xj jeepin girl your in the best part of the country you have wheeling spots in every direction. I would count my blessings and be glad your not a flatlander, and spray some mud on your family with a nice roostertail as they try to smother your fun times with their bitch'in

Well, I haven't lived under my parents' roof for quite some time. I suppose I could show up in a clown car, and there's really not much they could say. :kissyou:

I took my Dad on his first real wheeling trip a couple of months ago; we went out to Calico, and farted around for a day. He'd raced Lolas back in the '60s and '70s, but had never done anything like this - and liked it. He gets it. My Mom has never been on a run with me yet, but we'll fix that soon enough.

As for the rest of the family? Screw 'em. They drive minivans, and get what they deserve.

I live out of state now, so it's all gravy... but..

mom thinks it's a phase i'll grow out of, and though she has never been, she associates rolling vehicles, broken gear, death, etc etc for some reason. dad doesn't understand it either, just says it's a waste of time and money but asks me about my adventures occasionally. dad drives a touareg but never takes it offroad with the exception of tahoe in the winter.

I emailed the following picture to my mom with only the subject "Hey mom, I found a new favorite Jeep trail."

I didn't hear from her for two days.
She finally sent back a 4 page letter carefully explaining the evils of off-roading and taking such risks when I had a family to support...etc. etc.

I can't remember laughing so hard in a long time.

It took me a long time to explain to her that it was not me in the picture, and that I would never take such a risk.
And, that the picutre was actually a fake
(Note: I have confimation directly from WARN that this picture was fabricated for a poster of theirs. )

===

So if you want a good laugh (at the expense of mom's nerves)...go ahead and send this one to her.

FYI:
For those of you wanting to know more about the picture (I did speak to a marketing rep at WARN about it):
He said that the picture was taken in the '70s (he did not have the exact year) on a trail in Washignton State.
The actual trail is twice as wide as in the picture.
It was edited in the days before photoshop.
They used an exacto-knife to carefully cut/trim the trail to look narrow.
They then pasted a picture of a forrest behind the main picture.

My Dad has built several cars in his years, so any time I talk about building up the Jeep hes all for it. My brother has a craptacular Subaru, so everything i get to do with the Jeep is golden. Sister likes it when shes riding with me and i push the envelope, but other than that she lives in a house with three guys so she doesnt get an opinion.
