Your family?

Does your family hate the fact that you want to fourwheel and/or mod your Jeep?

I thought it would be fun to do this trail run organized by CO4x4.org and then go camping, so I mentioned it to my family. Here are the responses:

Mom: "I don't know about being a passenger on that... that just doesn't sound like fun."

Sister: "Meh."

Dad: Paraphrased, but basically: "Hell no. Why do you think we always want to do what you want to do?"

I just love the support! lol... My parents pretty much would rather die than see me "build" my Jeep, and they are very anti-4 wheeling... I wish they could see the light. Maybe I could get my sister into it, she's only 13! Oh well, I'm still goin'.

</rant>

Yes mine hates it.

But you know what?

I don't particularly care.

I take my vacations AWAY FROM them, not WITH them. I figure they got me 50 other weeks each year, I'm entitled to an escape clause. My Jeeps, my bike, and the other loud hobbies do that well.

uhh your dad has good taste not so much if he is into FWD vw or audi. The quatro systems are cool though, and if he is into porsche 911, or boxster, thats about as cool as you can get besides a lotus elise.

Now a honda is a nice appliance. Hope its a s2000 or maybe prelude, and not a 4 banger accord :gag: I dont hate american but your old man can do allot worse than german sports cars! I have never even owned anything foreign, but i will have a turbo 911 someday (old and used) and a elsie hopefully.
I meant he had bad taste in Honda, not german sports cars. That audi we had when I was a tike was fun when it was running. Didn't really have much power, but once you got going it was a damn tank on wheels. It was a quattro and I was amazed at some of the snow it could go through. He works on just about anything, but I see alot of Porsche's in his shop, so I'll get the opportunity to test drive them once he's done working on them to make sure it's fixed, and i'm a big fan of a good 911.

The Honda however, is a 4 cylinder Accord. The only thing it's got going for it is it's a manual tranny. Other than that, BORING!!! I've driven it a few times and it just feels real cheap, I don't like how it handles (I even got him to admit the handleing sucks on that thing), and you gotta run the piss out of it to get anything from it.

my dad was a gearhead in college, so he helps me work on it, actually he put most of the lift on it. Mom kinda understands, she just doesn't understand why i like to leave dry mud caked on for a week or two after i wheel. My cousin actually got me into jeeps...has a 90sumthin yj. Even my sister likes to wrench...she helped out with the lift and some other stuff

My family just thinks i'm crazy working on my Jeep all the time... swapping to a completely new interior.. taking all that time... My fiance on the other hand... loves Jeeps, loves to off-road, goes to the junk yard with me to get parts... I ask her what she wants to do this Saturday... "Let's finish putting your Jeep together." One of the many reasons i'm marrying her in March!

don't do it, she'll encourage you to play with the other woman (see jeep) until your money becomes "our money". Then you'll be told to sell that piece of crap.
:hang:

I'm kidding.......or am I?

congrats either way.

"Ooh, Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here!"

burbon... thanks and there is no need to worry about that. She even sat in my Jeep in the 15-20 degree weather wrapped in a blanket holding the light for me while I put the dash back together... dedication :eeks1:

I'm really sad to hear about this... And yeah I know I am revamping an old thread(I had a lot of time on my hands at work, so I started archiving)-
Anyhow, I bought my first XJ a few years ago when I first started dating my wife (we've been together 5 years and married for 2) and it really brought us together more. We started planning weekend trips to different locations and working on the Jeep together. She isn't a big fan of wrenching on Jeeps, but she will hand me my tools and help in any way that she can. She recently helped me put on my rock rails at the house- it took about 3 hours, but she was dedicated. Her family is totally supportive of exploring and such and her sister loves to go "wheelin" as much as I can get her offroad. My family thinks I am a little silly for spending some money on the Jeep, but they all own big 4x4 trucks(I grew up on a farm in S.C.) so they understand.

It's really too bad that you have to deal with that kind of negativity, but they will realize one day how much they missed out on by not getting to know more of who you are and what your interest in what/why you do the Jeep thing.

Just remember: F%@k 'em if they can't take a joke. Enjoy what little bit of time you have on this rock/sand/mud strewn planet and tackle it all while you still can.

Late,
Coullt
