So i know a guy thats getting rid of a older York ac compressor. I dont know much about them, but are they any good. Or would it be a waste of money? I want to get it to air up.

Pull the drain plug on the side and make sure that it is not full of water. Check the coil by grounding the compressor and toutching the coil wire to positive, you should feel/hear it click/engage. Another thing that works good is to put a 1/2 socket on your drill and put it on the bolt that holds the pulley on the compressor and give it a spin. See if it pumps air. The real killer of these compressors is moisture, the crank case will fill up with water and rust everything. When they lock up it can be bad, I've seen compressors that had locked up and thrown a piston and rod through the side and bottom.

IMO Yorks are your best source for onboard air. I agree with Frank $20 to $40 is the going price at the yard.

you can mount it anywhere you have a motor to turn it :D
