I'm looking at buying a late-'60s vehicle that's fitted with a York A/C compressor. The car's turned about 5000 miles since 1986, so I'm fully anticipating the compressor being shot. This is something of a windfall for me, since the dead compressor can be recycled into my XJ for dedicated OBA.
Here's what I need to know, though: does anyone know of a list of applications for these compressors (both foreign & domestic) by make and model? I don't know which model York is in there - any identifying marks I could see are *long* gone - and would like to be able to find out. Also (and I know this is probably stretching it), does anyone know of, say, a York-to-Sanden cross-reference? I might want to make A/C functional again in the car at some point, but would prefer to go over to an R134a system.
What I'm hoping to accomplish here is figuring out if I should put the York in the XJ or have it rebuilt for modern refrigerants. If it helps, the car it's coming off of is a US-Spec 1969 Rover 2000TC.
