Yay.

Hoping to take it to the Abra where Seth (proracedriver) works and maybe avoid all that. We've had good luck with Abra for the most part.

Then take it to Abra -- your insurer can't dictate who does the repair, though they will sometimes try.

Yeah I dunno. It's good to have nice vehicles and the g.a.p. insurance to cover incidents like this but I've often thought about ditching the new truck for an older one to avoid the loan payment.

But I couldn't drive a hail damaged vehicle. I like cars and trucks too much to drive one beat to hell.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure they'll fix mine. I'm just not looking forward to the B.S. back and forth to get it fixed right because it never happens the first time - always gotta go back for this issue or that....

I hear ya! I can't and won't drive something that has been beat to crap by hail. Some people can....I can't.

We had one of our cars back in '09 get pounded by hail out by DIA. ABRA up in Boulder got it perfect...I could never tell afterwards and I'm super picky.

For me it depends on the vehicle. A little fuel sipper type car I don't really care about, who cares. A truck as nice as Troy's, better fix that crap or its going away. Even my truck, as old as it is, I'd want to have repaired. I could care less on the XJ if it had hail damage. My g/f's Hyundai I want fixed just because its not even a year old. Although if they totaled it out I'd probably tell here to just let them pay it off and then buy it back. Screw the dents you have a free car now at that point.

Now confirmed - everything I own that was outside has at least moderate hail damage - wife's car, XJ, van, popup camper, and house. I don't want to fix the van but the bank owns it. If I submit a claim on the camper it's gonna get totalled the same as my wife's car. My insurance is going to be crazy for the next few years.

Insurance adjuster came out Saturday. $7904.00 Wondering if I should have my body shop estimate it themselves and see if they're in line with each other. A guy at work with a similar truck had an estimate by his insurance of over $10K and a guy with a '14 Chevy 1500 quad cab was only $3,200..... All with the same damage to the same panels and no glass to replace.

Probably have to schedule the repair out a few months as I'll need the truck to move my junk between storage yards by July 1st.

last I had to go there, I got three estimates from body shops. If I did not like the number the insurance adjuster gave me, I could contest that amount with my three estimates. The insurance company would pay the average of the three estimates, or something like that...

I wouldn't worry about the estimated repair cost.

Their estimate really doesn't matter at this point since insurance companies and body shops normally expect that number to change once the vehicle is in for the repair.

Hard to tell from your pics but that number gives me home the Hyundai will be totaled. I think retail on it is only 12,000$. Not a lot of room for repair.

I heard today that the Total Loss Ratio (aka the percentage of vehicle value before they declare it a total loss) is being dropped by most of the insurance companies from 100% that is normal in Colorado to as low as 60%. It's considered a 'catastrophe' by the insurance companies and a total loss makes processing easier and faster.

Yeah. Burb got a little in both hail spats recently. Already set it up to just turn in and claim one incident at the end of the season. It's more waves then dents so I'm not too worried about it. All my glass is good. Happy I parked it between two side dumps

maybe I can clear a few things up....when the $ amount of a repair equals 60-70 percent of the value of a car that is when it is reassessed for being a total loss. This percentage varies slightly from insurance company to insurance company. Once this threshold is reached the mileage and condition of the vehicle are looked at and the salvage value based on damages is also taken into consideration as to whether or not that particular car is repaired or written off.

If you choose to retain or buy back your vehicle you keep the car and they take roughly 30% of the value of the vehicle off of the amount that the damages totaled and you are written a check for that much $. If the vehicle is titled in your name then it will still have a clean title, the accident or damages would just show up on a carfax is all.

Insurance written estimates are kind of a joke when it comes to what the actual repairs will be and what the costs will be. Once your vehicle is dropped off for repairs at a body shop a technician will dissemble your vehicle and write a supplement for any parts and labor and repairs that were missed on the initial estimate. This is sent off to the insurance company for approval and then once it is approved repairs, painting, and reassembly happen to the vehicle.

Insurance written estimates don't mean anything, I have written supplements as high as $4,000 over the original estimate on a hail job before for additional parts, labor, and repairs. Insurance adjusters don't always know all of the parts that need to be removed in order to work on or paint a vehicle. A lot of times they don't see hidden damages from a collision, like a car having rear body, rear floor pan, or even framerail damage from a car being rear ended....so all they wrote for was a car needing a bumper cover.

State Farm just cut a check for 6,000$ in repairs, that's minus the deductible. Now for the fun of dealing with a body shop to get a real estimate and repair.
