Ya gotta love this....

combat life saver course is 3 days in a classroom....and all marines go through the US Army Airborne school to receive their wings.

but yea...in order to do airborne you haveta be a pretty decent runner....for excess of 4 miles....in formation.

Yep, unless they have changed things dramatically in the past 30 years.

For the Navy/Marine Parachutist Insignia: earn the Basic Parachutist Insignia and, under competent orders, have completed a minimum of five additional static-line or P3 jumps, to include day jump with combat equipment, a night jump with combat equipment,an alternate platform jump (typically a helicopter), and a water jump will be awarded the badge.[7].

Just like the army: Taking things that should be fun, and making them suck,...
:D

You embrace the suck. I'll stick with free-fall and a ram-air canopy.

I like my knees where they're at and working the way they should thanks,... :D

I embrace the suck.....and laugh at all the students going through airborne as I head to the hangar to prep for a mission.

I kick airborne guys out of my bird....i've done skydiving, its cool, but I have absolutely no desire to let the army mess me up.

Our guys had to casevac a dude off of Fryar to Martin Army Last week....landed wrong and busted up his back.

Spent 5.5 years of my life as a Marine 5 originally, then recalled from the IRR after 9/11 for 6 well paid months as an MP even though i was in Comms originally. (well paid as far as enlisted life)

Thought id milk the rest of the 20 years in the Coast Guard and get retirement.

Both branches i loved. But i couldn't take the USCG anymore because it wasn't Marine enough, oh well i did some cool stuff and learned i really really REALLY dont like being underway. Boats seem like a big floating coffin to me. i dont like being trapped. Just me though.

It was fun though and i dont regret a single day.
Now if id joined the air force i might have regretted it because i wanted to be in the military and not an underpaid GS worker :spin1: haaa here ya go, this thread was getting too far from "rib jabbing"

funny air force vs. army story:

about 8 months ago we were up at 5th Ranger Training Brigade (dahlonega, or camp merrill), and we had parked our aircraft on the concrete pad at the base of the hill, instead of the landing strip adjacent.

Couple of A/F pavehawks come flying in, and wanted to land on the concrete pad...which is obviously already taken by us....we hear over the radio them calling to the ops area:

A/F: 7A7 this is _______ 2 minutes inbound for landing

7A7: Roger ______ you are cleared

A/F: 7A7 this is _______ you guys already have birds on your pad.

7A7: Roger

A/F: Where do we land then?

7A7: Move adjacent to the pads to the landing strip

A/F: Can we fit in there?

7A7: Roger ______ you can fit.

And of course we are falling out of our aircraft dying....we land in there every day while doing air assault ops to pick up/drop off ranger students.....and the A/F is supposed to be the worlds premier aviation fighting source;)

there's my A/F ribbing story of the day:D

not to pick this apart, but a 100 combat patrols isn't shit, i've heard of platoons resposible for foot patroling more than 63 square miles, when i'm sure she was in a truck. combat lifesavers is a 2 day course that u honestly do nothing in (i've done it 3 times haha), and have u ever heard of a female sniper i mean really? seems like a waste of a spot where a real warfighter could have filled it. and marine jump wings? we go to army bases and complete there jump programs? just my .02

Female snipers, yes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Pavlichenko

BTW, did you know that females are naturally better shooters than males? Their phisiology is better suited to it.

I suggest you quit while you are only slightly embarrassed.

was a Soviet sniper during World War II, credited with 309 kills, and is regarded as the most successful female sniper in history.[1]

ok lets keep this within the last 40 years!! and no i did not know that and honestly don't care! and the last time i checked the us military still doesn't let any females into any combat MOS. so don't feel to embarrassed

All the US branches go to the US Army Airborne School, because it is the ONLY airborne school in DOD. Marines, Air Force, and Navy.

14S is a combat MOS and has female.

I know of a couple female war fighters. One of them Got a medal or two during her tour with convoy security.

The AF has female fighter pilots, security forces, and a few others.

I know both Navy and Marine Corps WSO's who have flown combat. I think the Navy is sending a few through Sub school as well.

I think they have already finished.

The Army still has some closed fields, 11B, 19D/K, 21B(closed to enlisted), 13B/F, 18s

yep.....and know what? i have no desire to be a true "combat' MOS.

my MOS is actually designated "combat support"

being aviation we see our fair share of stuff....yes we arent dealing with IED's, but we still get to deal with the LN's (local nationals) shooting at us...rockets, RPGs, small arms fire, etc. .

and sometimes we actually get to shoot back. There are female apache and kiowa pilots....they get to shoot shit at idiots.
