y links vs upper and lower controll arms

please define 'short' as used above.

My lowers are about 20.75" long and my upper is about 23.5" long...

and I dont think that my geometry is 'compromised'...

That's not short......that's mid-arm. And along with the length of the arms I'm sure you also changed the mounting locations to reduce the overall arm angle.

Perfect. :D

goatman, i've heard you moved the front axle forward and completely reworked the front clip. i'm sure there is a build thread somewhere. would you please be so kind to post a link to that here? thanks!

The front axle was moved forward on the buggy, and it has a 3 link in front. The XJ also has a 3 link, but no build thread, the big axles and 3 link went in it quite a few years ago. I do have a build thread of the buggy on here somewhere, but it's over a number of iterations and is filled with a bunch of off topic stuff. Do a search of threads that I've started and you'll find it.

Here's a link to all of my pictures. It starts with some pics of the XJ suspension, which was a few years before it was cut down in the back, and it was cut down in '02. Look at the albums menu and look for a couple albums about the buggy build and buggy prep. Quite a few pics but you can see if anything helps you.

haha, i'm not going to be doing that. i wanted to look at them more out of being impressed than practicality, but thanks anyways :D

i need to get better at welding before i attempt any kind of big fab project

Can I add my two cents?

I run fixed length RE control arms I bought five (or longer?) years ago.
They came in the 4.5" lift I installed when the rig was still full bodied.
Why haven't I changed them yet?
Because, if you have ever driven with me, you know that for what I have and what I do (35" tires and The Hammers) it works just about perfect.

I know that when I get around to installing the 44 in the front I will need to change the arms out to a mid length set up, but if you plan on running only
35's, I'm not seeing a huge advantage to going with any other arm set up other than the basic (almost stock) configuration.

But, really, what do I know about the other options?
Not much, so what I am saying only comes from the perspective of a tight wad who has tooo many toys to make each one of the 'perfect.'

:D
