Last week during offroading in sand, my rear window poped off, it didnt break, and I liked the feel of no rear glass, is there a way to make a removable rear window? (i.e hinges, clips, latched )
If you really wanted to do that, I would say plexi glass would be your best bet. I would think that a window would be too heavy. Plus you can drill holes more easy for hinges.
i started 4wheelin back in the day w/ a 73 bronco and later w/ a 90 fs bronco each have opening rear windows, i loved the roll-down feature of the fullsize bronco's rear window, allowing ez access to rear cargo/tools or for that wind in your hair comfort..
for a while i researched if any aftermarket parts manufactures made such a product to bolt inplace of the factory XJ window.. but i came up w/ nothing.
i would start by taking measurements of all other SUV windows that have the opening feature such as explorers and late model grand cherokees, perhaps you could adapt one of those windows to fit the XJ opening..
then you could possibly modify it to be fully removeable.
Yes, their easy to pop out and install. I'd say just keep it that way... pop it out when you want it out.. install it back in when you want ! I'm sure you will get the hang of it after a while..
