So quadratec sells a set of what they call xj pods. Supposedly they replace the rear panels in the back of the XJ and allow you to put an 8 inch sub on each side without using any cargo space. Has anybody tried these? If so, please tell me what you think. Thank you.

i havent personally used them but i was told not to use them, they are flimsy and cause vibration and the only way i know how to put it, it sounds like @$$

its the very expensive way to go about it, but the local install shop i go to will build me a custom built fiberglass enclosure to fit a 12" subwoofer carpeted installed etc etc on the passenger side all for 300 dollars its really not bad IMO except what happens if you get too close to a tree or rock or something and crease in that side... bye bye box!

I have one...it sounded horrible due to vibrations o the plastic walls and trim. I finally got it to sound pretty decent but it took some work. I went to home depot and bought some cheap dynamat (look in the roofing materials and you'll find some 12" x 24' tar paper with aluminum sheeting used for flashing I think. Only $12. Then coat the whole damn thing inside and out. also coat your interior panels completely. while you have the interior rear quarter panel piece removed, mount the xjpod to the panel using nuts n bolts to really secure it tightly. Dont forget to insulate it between the xjpod and the interior panel.

how far would the box and the 12's stick out? for bothsides or just one?

I have one. Tucks the sub away nice, but the way it attaches to the side panels makes it vibrate a lot. I stuffed enough dampening materials behind to make it stop vibrating, so it works, but doesnt look pretty.

And it is only for the passenger side...

I dont know if you could get a 12 to fit in it. It all plastic molding, so you could try, just not sure how it would look.

Quite honestly, for the money, I would have rather gotten a traditional sub box.

if you can find a JL Audio vantage stealth box for the cherokee...SNAG IT! I'll buy it from you

A much better option if you can't build your own, can't find the JL, and don't want to pay for a custom box is the XJ box from Subthump:

I've been running one in my XJ with a JL 10W-1 for a year now, doesn't rattle, hits good, and looks great.
