WTF is going on...

So now dealerships are going out and hunting for rigs, now that's crazy.

I feel your pain man. I'm lookin for a new one for around 1000-1500 and by the time I contact the person and get a response its already gone. Its happened to me like 5 times in the past month.

Ya they're buying them cheap off CL. Giving then minor tune ups then selling them on CL by dealer with 100% mark up. I saw one by owner for 1500 then saw the same freakin one for 3000 on by owner.

Really? You guys are whining because someone is buying an XJ before you can get to it? It's called free enterprise, cash money, and the American way. If you want something, hustle and get it. If someone beats you to it, oh well... but quit whining. :D

I don't care. I just think its a little shady to mark up a $1500 car and sell it to someone who doesn't know the difference. Let alone that its crap like that that leads those same people who might be looking for their first wheeler to think xjs are crap. when the crap that a shitty dealership bought, polished and resold with out doing any of the repairs that would warrant a 100% mark up. How would you like it if i sold you something that you thought was gold. Then found out that I sold you piece of crap that I spray painted gold for $2000. Would you really let it go if I said ''It's called free enterprise, cash money, and the American way. If you want something, hustle and get it. oh well..quit whining.!!!!!

I'm smart enough to educate myself on what I'm buying before I buy it. If people don't do that, it's their own problem. You can't get mad because people are making money by buying and reselling stuff. That is absolutely the American way. I make damn good money doing exactly the same thing. The last XJ I parted out I paid $2k for and easily tripled my money. Are you just jealous, just whining or do you really not get it?

You may have trippled your money, but you also put the EFFORT into tripling your money... What is the problem with putting a little elbow grease into a rig.. tossing a few bucks at it, and making a REAL profit? Did that rig have a ton of hiddin problems? Doubtful.. you seen a good deal and the potential to make a buck..

As a buyer, If i buy something for $5 grand, and find out 6 months later after research i could of got one for half the price and built it myself, is that REALLY the sellers fault?

Ok .... like I said if its only worth 1000 and someone buys it for 2500 from a DEALER and it falls apart I 6mo. Its the dealers fault for ripping some poor bastard off. And if that poor bastard goes crazy and kicks the dealers ass for it its the dealers problem for being a dirtbag

I know as most of us here know how to do research on stuff. It is the American way to buy cheap and sell high. But if you have to lie or cover stuff up or conseal the truth to do it, then your probably not doing it honestly. I agree with you on whining about not being fast enough. I'm not whining. I'm simply pointing out that if the dealers that are doing this are not turning a 1500 dollar jeep into a 2500 one by actually fixing stuff but just washing them and changing the oil. That's shady.
The true American way is to do it with hard work, pride and honesty. Not lie cheat and steal. Its called a moral and ethical standard. If you don't have it and just go around ripping people off. Then that makes you a dirtbag.(not you specifically or at all. Its figurative) like I said I don't give a crap. I've got all the jeep I can handle. Just think its messed up. NO NEED FOR A PISSING CONTEST.

I'm gonna avoid the standard advertising forums and semi-hijack this thread to test the conspiracy theory: I have an 86 Pioneer V6 5-speed 242 4.10 2.5" budget boost that will need storage or a new home very soon. Not available for sale anywhere else.

Yeah what he said.

FAIL. Bought many used cars from dealers lately? Unless you're paying for an aftermarket service contract, you sign at least 3 pieces of paperwork stating that the vehicle is sold AS-IS. If you overpay for a POS and it falls apart in 6 months, it's nobody else's fault but the buyer.

I think you are missing what is being said here though, think this is more falling in the line of morals then it is fault. I could have dumped some thick ass oil in my old motor and made it sound and seem to run good and no one would have known better unless they pulled the oil pan and then sold it to someone "as-is" but seemingly well running rig, now would that be right?

Just about everyone has been had at one time or another from a bad deal on a used car and if the seller didn't know it was bad then ok but if the seller knows it is, then manages to find a way to hide it then sells it that is morally wrong to do. I guess that is what separates the decent people from the sneaky underhanded cheap ass border line thieves in life.

How in the world did this thread get to this point.

I think that I originally started this to let people know that dealerships are now buying out our rigs from craigslist. I have no problems with someone making a buck, but when a dealership that has the capital and resources to do business takes advantage of a system that was intended for the general public, like Craigslist, it becomes infuriating. Dealerships and businesses are constantly flooding the lists with polished up Parts Cars. Mid Valley in a certain town along I5 north of Everett knows that they practice this tactic along with the bait and switch.

Kind of crazy that they would turn to CL to get rigs I would think they would get better deals at auctions but you are right they are doing it though. Guess they aren't getting the deals they want from auctions anymore. I see where you are coming from though.

John's point - do your own homework or have it looked at by your own expert - accept the consequences if it isn't completely done.

Welcome to life
