like the title says, looking for a d300 transfer case. let me know what you got!

how much would it cost to do the doubler compared to a new Atlas? i would think by the time you rebuilt both transfer cases, and get the needed parts, you would be close to an Atlas wouldnt you? plus you get to keep the longer driveshaft. now i dont know much about it, but i am curious to know if my logic is somewhat close.

who said rebuild? lol

if i were to buy the doubler kit, an atlas would still be probably 2-3 times as much

wow, ok then the doubler makes a LOT of sense. thanks for schoolin me on that one. i suppose i should have known. i look at some of these aftermarket transmissions for buggies and such and see them charging 20K+ for them. AND SELLING. amazing how much offroad stuff costs. good luck with the doubler, and make a build thread on it so we all can learn.

tons of info on 231/300 doublers out there. the kit is about 500, plus 200-300 for the d300, and some ods and ends to flip it and build a shifter. i can make my own kit if i want, it'll cost me about 200 or so, and i'm not sure it's worth the 300 to have to reinvent the wheel.
not 100% sure i'm doing one yet, Cal seems to think it'll be too low of gearing. however, since i have a manual, it's easy enough to pop it into 2nd or third, or whatever. i guess i'll have to talk to someone who has ran both a single 4:1 case and a doubler with a manual trans and hear the upsides and downsides of both.

i suppose it all depends on what you use the rig for. but i would think you could never have too low of gearing for a crawler, especially with a manual transmission. i know Cal uses his jeep for racing, and can believe the low gearing would be a downside in the open areas of the course.
and sorry for the hijack.

Cal actually has a few heeps, not just the race car.
hijack away, im still not sure what i want to/should do, so i welcome some discussion.

waiting on my motor mounts, Finch is doing my rear main, and planned on fixing the ps first.

d300 is gear driven.
i like the idea of the 231/d300 as it's the same length as a stock 231 so i dont have to mess with driveshafts

I know a d300 is.. Whats the overall length of a 231/300? Bet you still have to shorten the rear DS and lenthen the front DS. not to mention reset rear pinion angle again.

Good luck with it though!

supposed to be within 1/4" of a stock 231
rear pinion angle is easy, as is adjusting for 1/4" difference if needed, i'm linked in the rear. takes 5 minutes :)

Why not a 241J?
that is another real option, and trust me, i almost pulled the trigger on one a few times. however, with the manual trans, the 2.7:1 stock 231 gearing is nice for a lot of things. but i want the lower gearing for when i need it.

Im in the same boat. Saving for an atlas by moab 2013.

It would be nice to have gearing options.
