WTB Complete XJ

Thanks for the welcome; I'm really looking forward to being part of the NAXJA family.
I had a 1990 Wrangler that had the 4.2 carbed engine and I won't make that mistake again; I want to wait till I find the perfect rig (maybe not perfect, but at least this time I know what I'm looking for). I know they're out there, but its been two weeks since I sold the YJ and I havn't seen anything promising. I just figured I'd check with you all and maybe you had a buddy that had to sell his rig or something. Thanks again.

Just a correction: The 1990 XJ does not have the carbed 4.2, it has a Renix 4.0, which is a Renault/Bendix Fuel Injection system. XJ's began using the 4.0 with Renix in 1987. Those years could also come with a Dana 44 in the rear, but avoid the manual trans through 89, it was Peugot junk. 91 went to the 4.0 HO with the Mopar injection and got a power boost.

What exactly are you looking for within those years? 4.0? Auto or Manual? Certain options? XJs run a huge gambit on prices.

I paid $3000 for my 94 back in July 06 with 108k on it, 4.0L 5spd 4x4 Sport with vents and a/c that didnt work and a saggy headliner. Lower mileage rigs are out there you just have to wait for them.

I really appreciate all the advise, leads and bantor (even if most of it's going right over my head). I just got done looking at this jeep and it seems pretty tight http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/car/603316820.html . I know the '00-'01 can have head issues, but I'm taking it by my mechanic tomorrow morning for him give it a look. Let me know what you think.

I beleive that is a low pinion D30 up front.

wow, thats a pretty one.

I was looking at that jeep was wondering if he would trade lol

Well, I drove the Jeep, gave it a once over and it seemed like just what I've been looking for. I asked the guy if he was OK with my mechanic looking it over (which I'd pay for) and he thought it was a good idea. After inspection I was advised to pass on it; the mechanic said it had extensive rust in the fuel delivery system and throughout the engine area. I'm sure he won't have a problem selling it (It's a good looking jeep and the price is right), but it just won't be to me. I'm back on the hunt. Thanks again for the input.

It's a 1997, 4x4, 4 door, 107K miles, original owner with meticulous maintenance records (a spiral notebook with every oil change, tire change and the guy even logged when he fueled up, gas price and MPG he was getting), its bone stock, black, in good condition for 11 yrs old, paid $3,250. I’ll post up some pictures after I pick it up; I can't wait!

Boy is this long overdue. Here is what the jeep looked like when I picked it up:
