I’ve jumped ship from the YJ world and am looking to get a Cherokee for wheeling and around town driving; unfortunately I’m just not finding what I’m looking for on the trader or Craigslist. What better place to ask than the SoCal forum (fyi – I live in San Diego). Here are a couple of directions I've been thinking of going:

1991 - 1995
Mileage: Under 120K
Conditions: Stock or mildly built in decent conditions (for age)
Price range: Stock - $2,500
Mildly built - $3,500

OR

1997-1999
Low miles Under 120K
Condition: Stock or mildly built in good condition
Price range: Stock – under $5,000
Mildly built - $6,000

If you have any leads or suggestions, I’m open to them. TIA

Welcome to NAXJA..

IF you haven't already wheeled an XJ, you'll be impressed by it's capabilities.

I'm surprised you haven't found anything yet because I would expect that you would find XJ's in your price range(s).. They are out there.. Have you looked in OC and LA??

There is a completly stock 1990 un molested with only 81K on the clock for I think 2300 in glendora on grand ave. accross the street from foothill presbyterian hospital.

Thanks for the welcome; I'm really looking forward to being part of the NAXJA family.
I had a 1990 Wrangler that had the 4.2 carbed engine and I won't make that mistake again; I want to wait till I find the perfect rig (maybe not perfect, but at least this time I know what I'm looking for). I know they're out there, but its been two weeks since I sold the YJ and I havn't seen anything promising. I just figured I'd check with you all and maybe you had a buddy that had to sell his rig or something. Thanks again.

I more worried the funds will be absorbed by the wife for interior decorating - I've got to spend them before she does.

We had the same issue, IMHO: 4x4's are like boats, either well taken care of or thrashed... You might try pirate4x4.com and jeepspeed.com but be prepared to kiss a lot of toads to find the right one. It seems "really great condition" has a way different meaning to some people. We found our '98 on ebay and lucked out as it turned out to be a good deal.

Mine's got 150k on it, no major issues. I have a slight rear main leak, but not bad, and I can still get 17mpg with a lift, stock gears and 30s.
