Why are you limiting yourself to those 4 years....if I may ask?
ie, more of a difference between a 96 and 97, than a 98 and 99.
Just curious.

Sure, I just like the box style then the newer style grill.
if im mistaken the 99-01 are round correct?

The newer body style started in 97, different plastic trim, flares, etc. Rear hatch went from FG to metal. All rear diffs changed to the 29-spline 8.25 (except ABS). 95 TC's have the extension housing the SY, and is internally lubricated. 96 on have the rubber boot with the pre-greased splines.
Lotta "little" differences but they're all XJs and all good.
There's prolly more differences between 95-98 XJs than any other 4 year period except the early 80's years.
