WTB: 231 case

So not to ask a stupid question, so would than my 242 be ok with a sye & both my axles locked front & rear? Will it hold up ok?

I run the 242 with a rear Detroit and a front ARB on 33's and soon-to-be 35's. The 242 is not much (if any) weaker than the 231. I'd put my junk up against anyone else that has a similar build with a 231 case.

Edit: And I have the RE HnT.

Ok, Well that is what i was hopping for. Thank you for the input...

With a 242, with a locker in the front makes full-time into part time. IF you put an LSD in front it would still work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but full time 4x4 unlocks the front differential from the rear differential and allows the two axles to spin independently keeping the transfer case from binding when one of the axles slips and the other doesn't.. so I'm not sure how a locker in the front makes full time into part time...

Okay, example.. The np242 has a differential built into it. SO when in full time 4wd, each axle can spin independently, but if the front its LOCKED, the tires will spin at the same speed, not different speeds regardless of turing or not, So the diff. in the t-case can't do its job.

not to be difficult, but i'm confused on how locking the front tires together would effect the differential effect of the full-time 242 since your front axle is still spinning (just both your wheels are locked) and your rear axle is still allowed to spin at a different speed as your tcase is dumb and doesn't know whats going on with your front axle... locking a front differential shouldn't effect or control a transfer case... unless there's something i'm missing

Joe I MIGHT know where you could get one, I'll text you about it tomorrow

I have one out of an 87 that i would sell for 75

Thanks man, I think i am all set. I will pm you if it dont work out.
