i need to replace the cat converter on my 2000xj as it has been beaten to death on the rocks & most likely wont pass smog.
anyone got one laying around they don't want?
You can not buy any aftermarket cats. They are not legal in California. Cats need to be purchased from an exhaust shop. I bought a new one 2 years ago. Think I paid like $300-$350
Also, Knucklehead My cat is smashed from rocks. couldnt read any numbers off of it. Luckily I smogged right behind the exhaust shop I went to. the smog guy just asked the exhaust guy if it was from him. They both thought it wouldnt pass but it did. with pretty good numbers. My 2c, Try it.
buy one and have someone out of state forward it if you have to get one new. When cherokees were made there was no CA rating on cats so there is no reason to pay the ridiculous extra $$$ now for a stamp
I dont recall if I did that and I dont recall that it definitely passed with a non-CA blessed cat
OK, I have a 2k and there are 3 cats on mine if I remember correctly. Two in the header and one after the header merges into one pipe. Is this correct? Don't make me go out and look, it's warm inside.
You just need the one that is after the merge right?
